I, as well as numerous other HP notebook owners, have been seeing the error message that HP Accelerometer is incompatible with this version of Windows. This has been occuring after every system start since the "Creator's Update" to Windows 10.

I have already tried SP82228 as well as other updates to HP 3D DriveGuard recommended by HP Experts (ie. see below). But, none of the updates resolve the conflict.

Many people are on the same boat with you after Microsoft  giving a hit. At this stage we have a mix bag: works and doesn't work when do a CLEAN install of

         http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp82001-82500/sp82228.exe

You may want to try it again (with a CLEAN install, not over the top) OR uninstall 3D Driverguard software to avoid error message and wait for Microsoft and/or HP to work this out.

I don't wish to contradict you. But, I suspect that the conflict is still present on all installations with the Windows 10 Creator's Update. I further suspect that the 3D DriveGuard software had been using a specific Windows API which has a changed interface protocol with new unexpected results. Since the Windows version probably changed with the Creator's Update, the conflict might simply be the age-old problem of misinterpreting the version of Windows. The perceived "mixed bag"/"works" results are a likely a presumtion based on lack of follow-up from users who had given-up or didn't care enough to report that the error message eventually returned.

I saw the encountered pitfalls listed on other posts. So, I made sure the previous version (and a few lingering components) were carefully and thoroughly removed before installing the latest version. I succeeded without any errors or warnings. But, following the install and final reboot, the conflict with Windows 10 returned.

Good news to hear. I installed the update from last week and it appears to have resolved the conflict. Now, I just wonder if the software works at all. Hopefully, I'll never have to test it.

The note above is to remove the error. Now, please try newer software

Found this link through hp, note that the last update to the document  is dated 12 Dec 2017. The service pack is SP83846 and it installs HP 3D Driveguard version 6.0.45.1 Revision A

The address for the HP page is:   https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05841987

To be on the safe side it is probably best to delete your current version of Driveguard and rebooting before you install the updated version. I have a HP Smartfriends account and had the tech at HP take remote control of my system and had him run the update after I gave him the address of the update page. A previous tech had removed the Driveguard software I had to stop the error message.

You could probably be ok to run the update yourself. When you click on the downloaded service pack where you saved it, Windows automatically opens and installer and asks permission to run it. The process is very quick and closes itself down.

To verify the software is installed, go to your lists of installed apps by right clicking on your Start button then clicking on the "Apps and Features" link in the menu. Scroll down the list and you should see HP 3D Driveguard in the list. On my system there is no icon in the system tray. To verify if the software is loaded and running in the background open Task Manager and click on "More Details", you should see in the list that the Driveguard services are loaded and running in the background.

The original version of Driveguard used to have an icon in the hidden icon folder in the notification area of the taskbar, this version does not. It did not serve much of a function anyway. There were no settings available there only version information and a description of what the software does.

The software runs in the background and only activates if the laptop is dropped or bumped hard which causes the accelerometer to send info to the software that parks the hard drive. The hardware accelerometer can be found in your Device Manager under the System Devices list and is currently called the HP Data Protection Sensor. Probably be a good idea to check that the sensor has the latest drivers installed.
