Got a new HP laptop and bought the 3 year damaged or stolen coverage. Just got an email about downloading the software that says this: Your HP Care Pack(s) includes a subscription to Absolute Home and Office security and theft recovery software.

Is this needed for the damaged or stolen coverage to work, or can one choose to not install and still have the coverage? What does this software do, feature things like tracking through a network connection and remote wipe abilities? Does HP support have to do both of those, or does the end user have access to do so?

Welcome to the HP Community --

If you do not install the Absolute software, it cannot do the job of protecting your system as described.

When I've had the software installed, I had full access to the interface, including contacting the support team.

Try asking for help at the source.
