Hello.

I have HP ENVY x360 Convertible 15-ee0xxx on Windows 10.  recently I noticed laptop was running hot while working on photoshop, I opened HP Command Center to change thermal profile to performance  and did not hear the fan speed up as i would normally do. It appears that HP Command Center is doing nothing when i click on the options.

I uninstalled it and reinstalled it via the microsoft store. i updated bios drivers (when the bios was updating the fans were on full speed so they do work). nothing seems to change it

in bios the only option is for fans always on (enable / disable - disable was default). i enabled this and i guess this leaves the fans running slowly always but no adjustment based on profile. I  think then the bios has this disabled the fans just do not come on at all (which cannot be the idea)

any ideas?

@LATango,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like HP Command Center is not properly controlling the fan profiles, even though your BIOS and hardware are functioning correctly. Here are some steps to troubleshoot and potentially fix the issue.

Reset HP Command Center Settings

Since reinstalling didn’t work, try resetting HP Command Center's settings:

  1. Open Windows SettingsAppsInstalled Apps.
  2. Scroll down and select HP Command Center.
  3. Click Advanced optionsReset.
  4. Restart your laptop and try changing the thermal profile again.

Check HP System Event Utility

HP Command Center relies on HP System Event Utility to function properly.

  1. Open Windows Services (Press Win + R, type services.msc, and hit Enter).
  2. Scroll down and find HP System Event Utility.
  3. Right-click it and choose Properties.
  4. Make sure the Startup type is set to Automatic and click Start if it isn’t running.
  5. Restart your laptop and test HP Command Center again.

Update HP Thermal Framework & Drivers

HP’s thermal framework manages fan behavior. Outdated or missing drivers can cause issues.

  1. Go to HP’s Support Page for your laptop and download:
    • HP Thermal Framework drivers
    • Chipset drivers
    • HP Command Center update (if available)
  2. Install the drivers, restart, and test again.

Alternative: Use HP Support Assistant to check for any missing updates.

Try a Different Power Plan

HP Command Center might not override power settings properly.

  1. Open Control PanelPower Options.
  2. Select High Performance or create a Custom Power Plan with maximum performance.
  3. Restart and test HP Command Center.

Check for Conflicting Software

Some third-party apps may interfere with fan control:

  • MSI Afterburner, HWMonitor, ThrottleStop, or other fan control software may conflict.
  • Uninstall or disable any such software and restart your laptop.

Perform a Hard Reset

If the issue persists, try a hard reset:

  1. Turn off your laptop.
  2. Unplug the charger and any peripherals.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the charger and power it on.

This resets the embedded controller (EC), which can sometimes fix thermal control issues.

As a Last Resort - Perform a System Restore

If this issue started recently:

  1. Search "Create a restore point" in Windows.
  2. Click System Restore and choose a restore point before the issue began.
  3. Let Windows restore and then test HP Command Center again.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
