Good evening,
I have the exact same problem, it started slowly opening up few days, today out of nothing the plastic cracked completely so the left hinge is now detached.
I have had the laptop for little over a year and bought it in a different country.
What is the procedure now?
I am extremely disappointed by the low quality, especially finding out online how many people had this exact same problem. My past laptop, Asus, lasted probably around 4 years, this one literally breaks apart in less than 1?
Appreciate your prompt reply, thank you

My hinge is broken on the right hand side. This is definitely a poor design and everyone is having hinge issues with the sleekbooks. HP should pay for all costs related to this issue since there hasnt been a recall. I would like to know if the repairs are going to be covered by HP. My laptop is almost 2 yrs old and has been taken care of and looks like it came out of the box.

Again the same problem occured.
My right hinge got cracked a year ago. I gave it to the HP Sevice Center in Pune. After arguing a bit, I got the service center person agree to change the hinge. They took almost 3 weeks, but changed whole screen saying that hinge and its casing are not available separately. Luckily I was in warranty period that time.
Now again, the left hinge of my laptop has started cracking, in same manner as shown in the pic above.
I believe the problem is with the hinge and not the screen casing. I explained it to them, that the hinge needs to be worked upon before working on the screen casing.
Lets see what solution they have this time.
But HP should really look into the issue. Its really painful to keep going to the service center for same issue.
I am really jittery now in recommending HP to my colleagues and friends now.

I've exactly the same problem as well. Also at the left hinge, like in the picture. My computer is still working, but I'm afraid to close the laptop again. I bought this laptop secondhand on-line, so there I don't have any warranty. However, does anybody now how I could fix it? I'm willing to pay for it.
Thank you!
