HP Envy 16: HP Command center installs but nothing happens when cycling through available modes

Hi all,

There’s always something useful to find on HP support forums, but for this particular issue one can find only vague information. Hence I decided to bring this topic up again here.

I own an Envy 16 with I7 12th Gen and with an RTX 3060 graphics.

I formatted the laptop  for the first time a few months ago, and I had to reinstall HP Command Center, which by the way, can’t be found through a search in Microsoft Store. After getting a link to the program I downloaded and installed the app, together with the necessary updates as recommended by HP Support Assistant.

Everything installed fine, however the app doesn’t work. When I try to cycle through the available modes, nothing happens. The fans’ speed don’t change, the temperature doesn’t change, neither does the performance.

P.S: My laptop is completely up-to-date. All the drivers presented in HP Support Assistance are already running. Thus far I can’t figure out why the app doesn’t work. Reinstalling it seems to be a challenge because the app can’t be found in the list of installed programs via control panel.

All suggestions are wellcom!

Thanks all in advance!

Hi @Stenaldo,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds frustrating to encounter issues with HP Command Center after reinstalling it on your HP Envy 16. Here are some steps you can try to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the problem.

Verify Compatibility and Installation:

  • Compatibility: Ensure that the version of HP Command Center you downloaded is compatible with your specific model of HP Envy 16.
  • Installation: Double-check the installation process to make sure there were no errors or interruptions. Sometimes, incomplete installations can cause issues.

Check for Updates:

  • HP Command Center: Even though you mentioned installing updates through HP Support Assistant, ensure there are no further updates specifically for HP Command Center that might address bugs or compatibility issues.

Reinstall HP Command Center:

  • Clean Reinstall: Since you mentioned the app doesn't appear in the list of installed programs via Control Panel, it might not have installed correctly the first time.
    • Uninstall the current HP Command Center if possible (you may need to use an uninstaller tool if it's not listed).
    • Download the latest version of HP Command Center from the official HP website or the link provided by HP support.
    • Install it again and follow all installation prompts carefully.

Check System Settings:

  • Power and Performance Settings: Sometimes, system power settings or other performance-related settings can affect how HP Command Center operates. Ensure your power plan settings are optimized for performance and not set to a power-saving mode that might limit performance adjustments.

BIOS and Firmware Updates:

  • BIOS: Ensure your laptop's BIOS is up-to-date. BIOS updates can sometimes include fixes for software compatibility issues.
  • Firmware: Update other firmware components if available through HP Support Assistant or the HP website.

By systematically going through these steps, you should be able to diagnose and hopefully resolve the issue with HP Command Center on your HP Envy 16.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
