Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Laptop has not been updated since new, it is now a retired product.

It is now updated to Windows 10 pro, but need to update BIOS and drives for the laptop.

What's the full model number or product number of the notebook?

To find the product number for your PC, click on the search icon on your Windows taskbar.

Type: System Information

The System information app should show up.

Run the app and the product number of your PC will be found on the System SKU line about 1/4 of the way down on the report.

Some of those older models never had drivers for W10, just up to W8.1.

Not too concerned about Leap Motion, or even touch screen.

I did a clean install of Windows 10, but still operating off of the original BIOS and drivers.

With nothing  else installed this PC is underwhelmingly slow.

On startup it has always been stuck at 100% disk drive activity for up to 15 minutes making it useless for any use until then, I have gone in before the OS upgrade and ruthlessly deactivated startup items etc, anything active in the Task Manager I ended playing whack a mole stopping activity hoping to find the culprit, no joy.

For years I have searched and tried every MS related forum and solution suggested but the drive persists in doing it's 100% thing, I should not need to cripple this computer to have it function as designed.

Once the drive finishes torturing me this PC is still slow for an i7 CPU.

Please I would really appreciate the updates in hopes that there is a solution.

What BIOS version does your notebook have?

It seems if you install the latest one, it wrecks the notebook.

Solved: HP new Bios Update ruined my Envy J021tx 15" laptop - HP Support Community - 6242555

Here are the info and exe links to the previous version:

This reputable 3rd party website has the drivers for the 17-j0xx model series:

They have the BIOS version F.69 but again, I don't recommend installing it.

Try this W10 audio driver for your notebook, not the one on the website:

Okay after reading how several people have bricked their motherboards upgrading bios, and then no further support from HP (I'm currently at F.53) which one would be safe?

HP Recommended

I would have no idea which other BIOS update would be safe to update to.

Like I wrote the other day, F.69 was the one that wrecked the motherboards and I gave you the one previous to that -- F.68.

You can google that and see if F.68 caused any issues with the model series.

I couldn't find anything.

That is all the assistance I can provide regarding this matter.

Update the BIOS at your own risk.
