Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I've had my PC for about two years now. Ever since it was brought out of the box it seemed a bit off to me. It might be because I'm new to the PC community, switched from mac, but some things didn't seem like they functioned right.  For example, if I didn't turn off the PC a certain way, it would somehow stay on after closing it and severely overheat. There were a couple of other minor problems that I cast aside. Recently I've been experiencing some performance issues with the PC itself. I use to be able to run many applications and/or games fairly well with good feedback. Lately, I've noticed that the performance has taken a dive; it hasn't been as good as it was. It got so bad to a point where I decided to software reset my PC. This did work a small amount but the performance still hasn't reverted to its old potential. I'm hesitant to send it in for a checkup on the hardware so I decided to come here in case anyone had any clue.
