I am trying to update the BIOS on my Envy x360 laptop but when I run the downloaded file I get a message saying the BIOS is not compatible with my device. I have searched through the community here to look for others posting about this issue with my exact model laptop and only found 1 post but it was never updated.
I went to the HP support page and entered my Serial Number to make sure I got to the correct support page for my device and downloaded the BIOS update listed there. the filename is sp142212.exe for v f.51 Rev.A from 2022. I am currently running v f.46 from 2019. I have tried running the file as Administrator but that doesn't help. Maybe upgrading from 46 directly to 51 isn't supported? do I need to maybe install a version between 46 and 51? if so, where do I find those? they aren't listed on the support page for this serial number, only the latest version is listed there.
here is the info from MSINFO32 for my laptop:
OS Name Microsoft Windows 10 Pro
Version 10.0.19045 Build 19045
Other OS Description Not Available
OS Manufacturer Microsoft Corporation
System Manufacturer HP
System Model HP ENVY x360 Convertible 15-cp0xxx
System Type x64-based PC
System SKU 6EH45UAR#ABA
Processor AMD Ryzen 5 2500U with Radeon Vega Mobile Gfx, 2000 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
BIOS Version/Date AMI F.46, 11/15/2019

I'm not sure why its listing a TouchSmart all-in-1 for the product here, it should be for the Envy x360 laptop. I never selected the TouchSmart as a product when I submitted this post.
nevermind, i was able to edit it.

@WhiteKenny, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Based on the error message:
"This utility is not match with your platform."
and the context you've provided, here's a step-by-step guide to resolve the BIOS update issue on your HP Envy x360 15-cp0053cl:
Root Cause
The error typically means that the BIOS update file (sp142212.exe) is not compatible with your specific hardware platform, even though it was downloaded from the support page using your serial number. This can happen due to:
- A mismatch between the System Board ID and the BIOS package.
- The update utility being intended for a different variant of the Envy x360.
- A corrupted or misidentified product configuration in the portal.
Steps to Resolve
Verify System Board ID
Let’s confirm your board ID matches the BIOS update:
- Press Windows + R, type msinfo32, and press Enter.
- Look for BaseBoard Product or System Board ID.
- Compare it with the supported board ID listed in the BIOS update's release notes (usually found in the SoftPaq description).
If they don’t match, the update is not meant for your board.
Try HP Support Assistant
Sometimes HP Support Assistant can detect the correct BIOS version:
- Download or open HP Support Assistant. HP Support Assistant | HP® Support
- Let it scan your system and check for BIOS updates.
- If it offers a BIOS update, proceed with that version.
Use HP Image Assistant (HPIA)
This tool is more accurate for business-class and consumer devices:
- Download HP Image Assistant. HP Business PCs - Using HP Image Assistant | HP® Support
- Run it and let it analyze your system.
- It will recommend the correct BIOS version if available.
Check for Intermediate BIOS Versions
You're currently on F.46 (2019) and trying to jump to F.51 (2022). While HP usually supports direct upgrades, some systems may require intermediate steps.
Unfortunately, HP only lists the latest BIOS on the support page. However, you can try this:
- Visit the HP FTP BIOS archive.
- Search for older BIOS versions for your model (e.g., sp13xxxx.exe or sp14xxxx.exe).
- Look for versions like F.48, F.49, or F.50.
Let me know if you'd like help locating a specific intermediate version.
Alternative: BIOS Recovery USB
If nothing works, you can try creating a BIOS recovery USB:
- Run the sp142212.exe again.
- Choose "Create Recovery USB flash drive".
- Use it to boot into BIOS recovery mode (press Win + B while powering on).
This sometimes bypasses platform checks.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Where can I find a list of the supported board IDs for the BIOS Update I downloaded? I don't know where to find the release notes, and when I run the file all I see for supported devices is "DEVICES SUPPORTED: N/A:"
the entry for the BIOS file on the Software & Downloads page has no info other than the version, size, and release date as seen in this screenshot. I can't click anywhere on that entry to get additional information.
according to MSINFO32 my board ID info is as follows:
BaseBoard Manufacturer HP
BaseBoard Product 8497
BaseBoard Version 92.48
