HP ENVY x360 Convertible 15m‑ee0xxx

Hello HP Community,

I have an

HP ENVY x360 Convertible 15m‑ee0xxx, and I’m experiencing a persistent camera issue.
When I open the Camera app, I get one of these errors:

  • 0xA00F4244
  • 0xA00F4289 (0x80131505)

Symptoms:

  • The camera is not detected in apps (Zoom, Teams, etc.)
  • The physical camera shutter button/switch is not working
  • HP Hardware Diagnostics Camera Test passes (so hardware seems fine)

Steps I’ve already tried:

  1. Checked Windows Privacy & Security → Camera settings (access is ON)
  2. Updated and reinstalled camera drivers via Device Manager
  3. Reset and reinstalled the Camera app from the Microsoft Store
  4. Ran HP PC Hardware Diagnostics – Camera test passed
  5. Checked for Windows updates
  6. Tried toggling the physical shutter button

Request:
Since the hardware test passes but the camera still isn’t working, I suspect a driver, firmware, or BIOS issue. Could anyone from the community or HP Support guide me on:

  • The correct HP TrueVision HD Camera driver for my model
  • Whether a BIOS update could resolve this
  • Any HP‑specific fixes for the shutter button not responding

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hi @barnabasET,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating it is when your HP ENVY x360 Convertible 15m‑ee0xxx camera shows errors like 0xA00F4244 or 0xA00F4289, even though hardware diagnostics pass. You're doing everything right, and I’m here to help you move forward with all the steps.

What These Errors Mean

  • 0xA00F4244: Windows cannot detect any camera hardware.
  • 0xA00F4289 (0x80131505): Often linked to driver or firmware issues.

Since your camera works in diagnostics but not in Windows, this is likely a driver, firmware, or BIOS-level issue, possibly related to the privacy shutter switch or Windows permissions.

Fixes & Recommendations

1. Check the Webcam Privacy Switch or Shutter Key

Some HP ENVY models have a physical shutter switch or keyboard key (usually F8 or F10) that disables the camera.

  • Slide the shutter switch to uncover the lens.
  • Press the shutter key (may need to press Fn + F8/F10) to toggle the camera on.

2. Uninstall and Reinstall the Camera Driver

  • Open Device Manager → Expand Imaging Devices or Cameras
  • Right-click your camera → Uninstall device
  • Click ActionScan for hardware changes

This forces Windows to reinstall the correct driver.

3. Switch to UVC Driver (Universal Video Class)

If the HP TrueVision HD driver is buggy, switch to the built-in Windows UVC driver:

  • In Device Manager → Right-click camera → Update driver
  • Choose Browse my computerLet me pick from a list
  • Select USB Video Device

4. Update BIOS and Firmware

HP has released BIOS updates that fix camera detection issues.

Make sure to:

  • Select Windows 11 as your OS
  • Download the latest BIOS, firmware, and camera driver

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
