Hi @Sam_26, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP G62 might have a corrupted BIOS, and you're running into issues creating the recovery USB. Let's troubleshoot step by step:

Confirm the BIOS Issue

Before proceeding, check if the laptop shows any signs of a failed BIOS:

  • Does the Caps Lock or Num Lock LED blink in a specific pattern?
  • Does the fan spin at high speed with no display?
  • Have you noticed any power cycling (turning on and off repeatedly)?

If so, BIOS recovery is a good option.

Try the Built-in BIOS Recovery First

Many HP laptops have an emergency BIOS recovery feature.

Method: Win + B BIOS Recovery

  1. Turn off the laptop.
  2. Connect the charger.
  3. Hold down Win + B (or Win + V on some models).
  4. While holding, press the Power button for a few seconds, then release the power button but keep holding Win + B for another 10 seconds.
  5. If the recovery starts, the screen may flash, and you might hear beeping sounds.

If nothing happens, proceed with USB recovery.

Creating a BIOS Recovery USB

If the BIOS is completely corrupted, you'll need to create a recovery USB drive.

Common Issues When Creating the USB

  • Error while flashing BIOS to USB: Ensure you are using the correct BIOS file.
  • HP BIOS Utility not detecting USB: Try another USB drive (preferably 8GB or smaller).
  • "This BIOS is not compatible" error: Confirm you are downloading the correct BIOS for your exact model.

How to Create a BIOS Recovery USB

Download the Correct BIOS

  • Go to HP's official support site: HP Support
  • Enter your exact model number (e.g., HP G62-XXXX).
  • Look for the BIOS version available for your laptop.

Use HP BIOS Recovery Utility

  • Download the BIOS update file (.exe).
  • Run the BIOS file on another working Windows PC.
  • Select "Create Recovery USB" when prompted.
  • Insert a FAT32-formatted USB drive (preferably 8GB or less).
  • Follow the prompts to create the recovery USB.

Perform USB BIOS Recovery on the Laptop

  • Insert the USB drive into the HP G62.
  • Turn off the laptop completely.
  • Press Win + B and hold it.
  • Press Power, then release the Power button while keeping Win + B pressed.
  • Wait for the BIOS recovery to start (you may hear beeps or see the screen flicker).

Alternative: Blind Flash the BIOS

If the USB recovery doesn't work:

  • Try an older BIOS version (sometimes downgrading works).
  • If available, try a BIOS recovery through HP_TOOLS partition (if not deleted).

Last Resort: BIOS Chip Reflash

If the BIOS is completely bricked, you may need:

  • A BIOS programmer like CH341A to reflash the chip manually.
  • Or take it to a technician for BIOS chip reprogramming.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
