HP ProBook 450 G3 Notebook PC (ENERGY STAR)

HotKey periodically uses a lot of RAM and crashes when adjusting volume level via keyboard.

Tried to install https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp139001-139500/sp139275.exe from another post.  Got error message of Not a Valid Win32 Application.

Created a dump file for this HotKey software, but do not see where to upload it.

Hi @DanM10,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The HP Hotkey utility is a software program that allows users to configure and customize the hotkeys on their HP laptops. If the HP Hotkey utility is not working on your HP laptop, there are a few things you can try to resolve the issue.

  • Restart your computer: Sometimes, simply restarting your computer can resolve the issue. This can help to clear any temporary glitches or errors that may be affecting the HP Hotkey utility.
  • Check for updates: Ensure that your HP laptop is running the latest version of the HP Hotkey utility. You can check for updates using the HP Support Assistant or by visiting the HP website and downloading the latest version of the HP Hotkey utility.
  • Reinstall the HP Hotkey utility: Uninstall the current version of the HP Hotkey utility from your computer and download and install the latest version from the HP website.
  • Check for conflicts: Some other software programs or drivers on your computer may be conflicting with the HP Hotkey utility. Try disabling any other software or drivers that may be causing the conflict.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello Alden4,

Thanks for your reply.

And I should also mention that this HotKey utility regularly crashes when most hotkeys are used (e.g. volume control).

In trying the various steps, I find ..

  • Hotkey utility recovers after a reboot, but as soon as volume adjustment buttons are used, it crashes again.
  • This laptop has had all needed updates.
  • I un-installed HotKey. Then, a search of drivers and a scan of laptop on hp website shows all drivers are in place. Perhaps HotKey is not considered a driver even though it supports hardware usage?
