This concern was raised by one of the users who usually leave leaves the laptop connected to a dock overnight and over the weekend. On Monday morning, the device reported “Smart charged at 84%” instead of being charged to 100%. User expected a fully charged battery for day spent in meetings where charging may not be available.

Have confirmed the following:

  • Battery Health Management is set to “Minimise Battery Health Management” in both the BIOS and HP App > Battery Manager.
  • HP Intelligent Charging still activates after the device remains connected to power for several days.
  • HP App does not provide an option to enable or disable Intelligent Charging separately.
  • HP Power Manager does not appear to be available or supported for the EliteBook X G1i.
  • Disconnecting and reconnecting AC power twice within 10 minutes, or discharging the battery by more than 10%, can temporarily resume charging to 100%. However, this is not a permanent solution.

I understand that Intelligent Charging is intended to protect battery health. However, some users need to prioritise maximum runtime and require the option to charge fully before travelling or attending meetings.

Could you please confirm:

  1. Whether there is a supported way to permanently disable HP Intelligent Charging, or select “Always charge to 100%,” when required.
  2. Whether this can be configured through the BIOS, HP App or another supported enterprise management tool.
  3. Whether a BIOS, firmware, or HP App update is available or planned to provide this control.
  4. Whether this is expected behaviour for the EliteBook X G1i or a known issue requiring investigation.
I'm a after a persistent, administrator-controlled setting that allows us to prioritise full battery capacity for affected users.

Hi  @nm126

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

I understand the concern here  when you’re heading into a full day of meetings or travel, having only 84% battery can feel limiting. HP Intelligent Charging is designed to dynamically adjust charge levels for prolonged battery health, dont worry let me help you with this.

Could you kindly confirm the below detail :

  • The BIOS version currently installed

A few  steps you can try in the meantime:

  1. BIOS Settings Review
Restart the laptop and enter BIOS Setup (usually by pressing F10).
Under Power Management or Battery Health Manager, confirm that “Always Charge to 100%” or equivalent options are not hidden under advanced menus.
  2. Battery Calibration
Fully discharge the battery to below 5%, then recharge to 100% while disconnected from the dock. This can reset Intelligent Charging thresholds.
  3. Dock vs. Direct AC : Test charging directly via the AC adapter (without the dock) to see if the behaviour is dock-related.

Could you confirm if the issue occurs only when docked for multiple days or also when connected directly to AC power? That detail will help us determine whether this is expected behaviour or a potential firmware issue.

I hope this helps.

I'm an HP Employee.
