First of all, I'm sorry if the title is a bit tricky, but my brain couldn't find anything better
When I close the lid, my laptop goes into suspend mode. That's what I want, but the problem is it stays in there for some time (usually 30 secs to 2 mins) and then either the internal 1TB 7200rpm HDD or the fans or both start spinning. And this is frustrating, because when I'm not using it, I want the laptop to stay completely silent, but I also want the whole system to just like how I left it and ready in a couple of seconds when I wake up the laptop: that's why I want to suspend and not hibernate it. My previous computers where all Macs and they could do this flawlessly, so I don't want to miss this feature. Even my father's crappy Packard Bell from like 2010 can do this, come on. I've also checked the settings for the power plan, but everything seems ok. Please help me, even if I need to install some additional software.

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information regarding this.
- Did this happen after a recent windows or software update? Do you remember?
- .Did you disable Hybrid sleep?
- Did you update the bios?
Please perform a hard reset from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01684768
Then perform these steps to see if it gets resolved:
- Go to Control Panel, then click Power Options.
- From the Select a power plan page, click Choose what the power buttons do from the list on the left panel.
- On the Define power buttons and turn on password protection page, you then have the option of choosing what happens when you:
- press the power button
- press the sleep button
- When I close the lid- select the sleep option (not shutdown or hibernate)
- Now check again.
If it does not work then please perform all the prescribed steps from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03383935 and follow the option “The computer does not go into sleep or hibernate mode” Please disable hybrid mode also. Then check if the issue is resolved. Please disable Hybrid sleep as well.
Please change the power plan and set it to defaults from this link: http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c04752217

Thanks for your help. My laptop has been behaving like I described since the first day I bought it, a couple of months ago. No Windows Update (I have the service always disabled) and hybrid sleep was already disabled. I've updated the BIOS like you said and, hopefully, this seems to solve the issue. At least, I've tried a couple of times now and it works. I'll try the rest of the solutions and update this post if needed. Again, thanks for your interest.
