Upon turning on my HP Omen laptop, I observe an unusual behavior related to the keyboard lighting during the startup process. Initially, during the startup phase, red vertical stripes appear, hovering horizontally over the keyboard. Once the laptop finishes booting, the keyboard lighting configuration changes: the keys labeled P1 through P6 are illuminated in blue, the numerical keys 1 through 9 glow in red, and the F12 button lights up in pink. In this particular lighting setting, you encounter a functional problem where the numerical keys seem unresponsive for typing numbers, instead causing a change in the keyboard lighting pattern when pressed.
Attempting to turn off the keyboard lighting using the F4 key enables me to type normally without any issues. However, despite my desire to configure the keyboard lighting through the OMEN lighting setup, the selected lighting effects do not manifest as intended on my laptop's keyboard. This issue has persisted consistently since I have sent my laptop to HP for repair.
Sometimes, by randomly pressing the keys on the laptop, the lighting returns to the expected normal configuration, although it still doesn't reflect my chosen OMEN lighting setup.

Hi @Sapphire2002,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Omen keyboard lighting is not working properly, you can try the following troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue.
- Check Keyboard Lighting Settings: First, make sure that the keyboard lighting is enabled in your system settings. On most HP Omen laptops and desktops, you can adjust the keyboard lighting settings using the Omen Command Center or the HP System Event Utility. Check if the lighting is turned on and configured correctly.
- Update Drivers: Outdated or corrupted keyboard drivers can cause lighting issues. Update your keyboard drivers through the Device Manager in Windows or the equivalent utility in your operating system. You can also visit the HP website and download the latest drivers for your specific Omen model.
- Restart Your Computer: Sometimes, a simple restart can fix hardware and software glitches. Restart your computer and check if the keyboard lighting works after the reboot.
- Keyboard Lighting Key: Some HP Omen laptops have a dedicated key or function key combination (usually FN + a specific key) to control keyboard lighting. Ensure that you haven't accidentally turned off the lighting using this key.
- Omen Command Center: If your HP Omen computer has the Omen Command Center software installed, open it and check the keyboard lighting settings. Make sure the lighting is set to your preferred mode (e.g., static, breathing, or customizable).
- BIOS/UEFI Settings: In some cases, the keyboard lighting settings may be controlled at the BIOS/UEFI level. Restart your computer and enter the BIOS/UEFI setup (usually by pressing a specific key during startup, like F2 or Del). Check if there are any lighting-related settings there and make sure they are configured correctly.
- Check for Physical Damage: Inspect the keyboard for physical damage or loose connections. If you have a detachable keyboard, ensure it's properly connected. If it's an external USB keyboard, try connecting it to a different USB port.
- Power Settings: Some laptops might have power-saving features that can affect keyboard lighting. Check your power settings and make sure they are not set to conserve power excessively.
- System Updates: Ensure your operating system is up to date with the latest updates and patches. Sometimes, software updates can address hardware issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
