Hello,
My computer's battery drains on its own while the computer is turned off. After charging the battery to 100%, the computer is completely drained after just 2–3 days of non-use.
I ran a battery diagnostic on the HP website, and the battery shows no issues.
I would like to resolve this problem.
It is an HP Omnibook 17-dp0029nf laptop; the computer is brand new, purchased in September 2026.
Thank you for your reply.
Best regards,

Hi @Franden

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that your new HP OmniBook 17-dp0029nf loses its battery charge while powered off, with the battery dropping from 100% to completely drained after approximately 2–3 days, even though the HP battery diagnostic reports no issue.

Since the battery diagnostic has passed, this may be related to the system's power-management or shutdown behavior rather than the battery's reported health. To help us narrow this down, could you please confirm the following:

Perform an EC/hard reset

  • Shut down the notebook.
  • Disconnect the AC adapter and all peripherals.
  • Press and hold the Power button for about 15–20 seconds.
  • Reconnect the AC adapter and turn the notebook on.
  • Fully charge the battery and test the shutdown drain again.

Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  • Turn the notebook off.
  • Turn it on and repeatedly press Esc.
  • Press F2 for HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI.
  • Run the Battery Test and, if available, the Power/AC Adapter Test.
  • Record any failure ID.

Check the actual battery discharge rate

  • Fully charge the battery to 100%.
  • Shut the laptop down completely.
  • Disconnect AC power and all peripherals.
  • Record the battery percentage.
  • Check it again after 24 hours and 48 hours.

Hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persists.

Take care and have an amazing day!
