HP Spectre x360 - 15-df1033dx

After one of my rounds of updates, the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics app would randomly run, but only the blue rectangular app loading screen would pop up, covering whatever I was already doing in the background of my laptop. The device would boot as normal, was up to date. The pop up was annoying because it would not go away at all. I just installed two optional drivers that had not been options before, and it seems the pop up has gone quiet, but if it happens again, I want to know how to stop it. There was no reason for it to be popping up to begin with, and I haven't used my laptop for anything nefarious. All I've done lately is login to an online college course for the lecture streams.

Always, before the diagnostics app loading screen would pop up, the black window would pop up (times 2) and then close as the blue rectangle popped up. I can't be the only person this has been happening to. I now don't even want to run the diagnostics tool because I don't want it to continually pop up.

Hi @okiedokiedorkie,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics app might be configured to run automatically after updates or at certain intervals, and it's causing inconvenience by interrupting your workflow. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

Check Startup Programs: It's possible that the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics app has been set to run at startup. You can check and disable this by:

  • Right-click on the taskbar and select Task Manager.
  • Go to the Startup tab.
  • Look for the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics app in the list and disable it if enabled.

Check Scheduled Tasks: The app might also be scheduled to run at specific times. To check and modify scheduled tasks:

  • Press Win + R to open the Run dialog.
  • Type taskschd.msc and hit Enter.
  • Navigate through the Task Scheduler Library to find any tasks related to HP PC Hardware Diagnostics. If found, you can disable or modify them as needed.

Check HP Support Assistant Settings: The HP Support Assistant might be responsible for initiating these diagnostic checks. You can check its settings and disable automatic hardware diagnostics if it's enabled:

  • Open HP Support Assistant.
  • Go to Settings.
  • Look for any options related to automatic hardware diagnostics and disable them if enabled.

Reinstall or Update the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics App: Sometimes, a corrupted installation or outdated version of the app can cause unexpected behavior. Try reinstalling the app from the official HP website or updating it to the latest version if available.

By following these steps, you should be able to troubleshoot and hopefully resolve the issue of the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics app popping up unexpectedly on your HP Spectre X360 laptop.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
