Hey guys, I also have the same issue, however, I had a firend who had the exact same laptop, the Pivilian Dv4, I used their AC adapter, on my computer, and their adapter started to beep, however, when pluged in to their computer the adapter is fine and working, I'm suspecting soemthign wrong with the Motherboard, by just first glance. I'm not quite sure what to make of it just yet till i open it up and take a look, any sugestions before i do?

My HP Pavilion dv7-2120so from 2010 has been all the time connected to the charger (stupid me). Every now and then I have heard very silent beep from the charger. It has ended when I take the cord out and plug it back.
Seems to be some kind of contact problem in the three plugs what causes something inside the charger.
My charger is 90 W 100-240 V ~1.6 A 50-60 Hz Output 4.74 A. What I would like to have is 120 W charger because the present one becomes very hot.

My daughter's computer power cord and adaptor quit working after two months use. After being refused help from Best Buy in Calgary, Alberta. The Best Buy "geek squad" tested the cord and said that was indeed the problem. Best Buy refused to replace the cord and transformer. "things beak" was what I was told. We were forced to buy a new one.
I phoned the HP support line and was told that the computer and cord were required in order that a diagnosic test could be run.
The problem is - I cannot have the cord and computer together since my daughter does not live in close proxiity to me.
The HP call centre said they could not help without a test. I cannot make the test happen. I was given absolutely no satisfaction when all I needed was a cord and attached transformer.
I am very dissapointed - will not buy HP or shop at Best Buy again. All I need is a new cord and transformer I am not trying to take advantage of HP. Very dissapointed in Alberta, Canada

I had this problem....freaked out as I was on the road.
Had HP/compaq notebook computers for 20 years
Moved to different power outlet and problem solved. I am scared that I'll have the same problem again.
Buy a new charger? I guess it's a cheap option.

CAUTION: if you try to solve it by yourself, disconnect the adapter and be aware of electro shock and fire risk if you open the adapter box.
I made diagnosis with a multimeter. The poles of the laptop end showed short circuit. I guessed the origin of the problem was inside the wire, close to the adapter box. In that point wires usually get damaged. I opened the box, stretched the wire out of the box as much as possible. Then I closed the box again. I cut away the damaged part of the wire (1 cm of wire, starting 1 cm from the box).
I checked with the multimeter that there was no more signs of short circuit. I reconnect the ends of the wire. The adapter works again.
