Hi, I just bought a new battery for my Pavilion g6 laptop and it is not charging. The battery is on 7%, and I already tried to uninstall the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery and restart the notebook but it did not help. If I unplug the power adapter it does not shut down, but if I shut it down and try to start it with the battery only, it does not start. Can you please help me solve this problem?

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having battery not charging issues on your HP Pavilion notebook. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.
Splendid effort and fabulous description of the issue before posting. Kudos to you on that score. You are a valued HP customer and it is paramount to assist you here. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you.
To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:
Have you tried to update the Bios?
Have you tried to update the drivers either using HP Support Assistant or using Windows update?
In the meantime, let's try these steps here:
Perform a Hard reset on the notebook: A power reset (or hard restart) clears all information from the computer's memory without erasing any personal data. Performing a power reset might fix conditions such as Windows not responding, a blank display, software freezing, keyboard stops responding, or other external devices locking up.
Resetting the Bios to Defaults:
Resetting the defaults in the BIOS returns the BIOS to the factory settings that your notebook was shipped with.
To reset the BIOS defaults, follow the steps below.
-
Press the power button to turn on the notebook and repeatedly press f10 to enter the BIOS setup.
-
Navigate through the BIOS and select the option to restore the BIOS defaults. The option will be called Restore Defaults or Setup Defaults, or something similar.
-
Confirm that you want to restore the BIOS defaults, and then select the option to save and exit the BIOS setup.
-
Once the computer reboots, please check if the battery gets detected.
If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to uninstall the battery drivers from Device manager:
Unplug the charge and use the laptop until the battery drains to 15%.
Turn off the laptop and turn it back on after 30mins.
Reinstalled Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Control Method Battery under device manager,
Restart the computer and the issue should be fixed.
Also, Go through them all and let me know what you have determined is causing the issue. The first document has the most relevant troubleshooting if your battery appears to be not charging.
I would suggest here is to update the Bios, and Chipset drivers on your PC from our HP support website, using this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers
HP Notebook PCs - Testing and Calibrating the Battery (Windows 10) (Skip the steps if you have already performed).
Next thing, I would suggest here is to run the test on the battery from F2.(Click on Component test - Scroll down to Power)
Please remember to capture the failure ID for further assistance.
Alternatively, you can also go through this support document - HP Notebook PCs - Battery Does Not Power Notebook or Hold a Charge
I hope this information helps. Let me know if you need any further assistance. I'll be more than happy to help.
Let me know if those steps worked for you.
If they did, that’s awesome!
Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,
That’ll help us and others see that we’ve got the answers!
Good Luck.

I haven't tried to update the Bios before, and I tried to update the drivers, but the system said they are up-to-date. I reseted the Bios to default as you suggested, unfortunatelly it did not help either. I followed the steps from this link HP Notebook PCs - Testing and Calibrating the Battery (Windows 10), and tried to run a battery check but after 10%, it stopped and said result: cancelled, failure ID: - . I tired to run the test several times, the result was the same in each case. Does this mean that my battery is faulty and I should replace that?

And I forgot to mention that I also tried updating the Bios using this link https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers, but I could not select Windows 10, as there were only three options, 7, 8, 8.1

@B_Renata, Thanks for your quick response and time.
I appriciate your efforts for trying out the steps.
As you mentioned when you ran a battery test on your PC it failed with a failure ID.
It certainly looks to be an issue with the battery, please contact HP support and get the battery replaced.

Hope this answers your query!
