I'm getting lots of errors (every 5 secs) in the Windows event log related to the HP Power Assistant issues in Windows 10.

Is there an update to it for Windows 10 that I can install please.

Thanks

Example event logs for HP Power Assistent as follows

An error occurred while using HP CASL. Please restart HP Power Assistant application. Additional details may be available in the Details section. DETAILS CASL Error! Event PMC.Data didn't return XmlDocument; returnedSystem.Byte

Likewise in event log for HP Software Framework

HP Power Assistant is likely software left over from when the computer was running on a previous version of Windows, perhaps Windows 7 (listed in the Drivers).

It is not going to run on Windows 10 -- you may as well uninstall it.

The Power Assistant software might show up in either Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features or Settings > Apps > Apps and features

No joy?

You might find an uninstall.exe for the software in

C:\Program Files\HP\

or

C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\

The framework error might be due to a similar issue - old software left over from Windows 7 and / or Software that needs to be updated to Windows 10 versions.

If the Framework is the software tied to the HP Support Assistant, you can uninstall the HP Support Assistant > Restart the computer and log in > Download and install a fresh copy of the HPSA

As I recall, uninstalling the HPSA also removes the HP Framework in

C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\HP Support Framework

Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features >

Scroll down, find, Uninstall the HP Support Assistant

After the uninstall is completed, Restart the computer and log in

Download:

HP Support Assistant

  • If you have ‘Admin’ control, you may highlight the package and “double-click” to install it, else Right-Click, select run as Administrator and install.

Thanks Dragon-Fur, solved the Power Assistant problem.

Am getting a different software framework issue now, that at least isn't filling up the event viewer logs so much, so it has definitely moved forward. I'll investigate further as it is probably a second layer of the onion now.

You are welcome -- I am glad things "are better".

Part of the "weirdness" you see in the operation and the logs (in the Event Viewer) are likely a result of the computer having been upgraded beyond the supported version of the Operating System.

This means there are no HP Drivers for your current OS and you are dependent on Windows 10 Updates (and any vendor drivers) to keep things running.  Depending on Windows 10 and vendor updates is not a "bad thing"; it does reduce your options somewhat and the side effects will likely become more obvious as time goes by.

If the computer is becoming "vintage", that is older than three-four years, it might be time start thinking about a shiny new businesss class HP ProBook or Workstation to replace your trusty ProBook.  Well, something to think about.  Smiling.

Happy Computing!

That's true because HP knows your computer won't last any longer than 2 years tops.
