When I try to open HP Privacy Settings, I receive the message ' An error has occurred retrieving Privacy Settings' and I cannot access them. Any ideas how to fix?

Hello,

In order to help you resolve this incident, I invite you to follow the instructions of the HP link Error "An Error Has Occurred Retrieving Privacy Settings".

Also try updating the applications and games: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4026259/.

  • On the taskbar, select Microsoft Store  > More  > Downloads and updates Get updates.

Thanks for your quick reply. I had seen this post, but mone is not a Business Notebook, and I don't have this option in my BIOS, so, unfortunately, this solution is not applicable.

Try the following solution:

  1. On the keyboard, simultaneously press the Windows logo key and R. The Run window opens.

  2. Type services.msc, then press Enter. The Services (Local) window opens.

  3. Locate HP Touchpoint Analytics or HP Analytics service in Services (Local)
  4. Make sure it is running: set it to start automatically and start it if stopped.
  5. Restart computer.
  6. Open the HP Privacy Settings application again.

To find this product number P/N: this document.

What is the BIOS version currently installed on your computer (e.g. F.26)?

  • Using the notebook keyboard, press the fn and esc keys or CTRL + ALT and S keys to open the HP System Information utility.

The BIOS is already up to date, so there is no need to update it.

Please uninstall and reinstall HP Privacy Settings as follows:

  1. On the keyboard, press the Windows logo and X keys simultaneously.
  2. Click on Windows PowerShell (admin), and then Yes.
  3. Type the following command and press Enter:
    • Get-AppxPackage *HPPrivacy* -allusers | Remove-AppxPackage
  4. Restart the computer.
  5. Repeat steps 1 through 2.
  6. Type the following command and press Enter:
    • Get-AppxPackage -allusers | foreach {Add-AppxPackage -register "$($_.InstallLocation)\appxmanifest.xml" -DisableDevelopmentMode}
  7. Wait until Windows reinstalls the applications.
  8. Restart the computer.
  9. Try opening the HP Privacy Settings application again.
