Hi,

I am having some trouble with the HP Programmable Key.

The physical key itself is working correctly, but it doesn't seem to be communicating with the HP Programmable Key App. Specifically, I am experiencing the following three issues:

  1. F12 Key Behavior: When I press the F12 button, it performs a default action [tu możesz dopisać co robi, np. opens a browser], but I want it to open the Programmable Key App with my custom shortcuts.

  2. App Functionality: The options within the HP Programmable Key App are not working (please see the attached screenshots in Polish for reference).

  3. Shortcut Persistence: When I set a shortcut (e.g., Shift + Programmable Key) to open my "School" folder, it doesn't work. Furthermore, when I close and restart the app, the shortcut settings disappear completely.

Hi @MarekFilap,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that you are facing issues with the Programmable key and you would like to get the shortcuts updated. I would request you to please follow the steps:

Check Bluetooth Connection

  • On your computer, open Settings → Bluetooth & devices.
  • Make sure Bluetooth is turned On.
  • If the HP Programmable Key is listed, remove it (click “Forget”).
  • Put the key into pairing mode (usually by holding its button until the light blinks).
  • Re‑add it under Bluetooth devices.

Install or Update the HP App

  • Open the Microsoft Store on your computer.
  • Search for HP Accessory Center.
  • If you don’t have it, install it.
  • If you already have it, click Update to make sure it’s the latest version.

Restart the App

  • Close the HP Accessory Center completely.
  • Re‑open it and check if the key is detected.
  • Sometimes a simple restart fixes communication problems.

Update Your Computer

  • On Windows, go to Settings → Windows Update.
  • Install any pending updates.
  • Updated drivers and system files can fix compatibility issues.

Test on Another Device

  • Pair the HP Programmable Key with another computer or laptop.
  • Install the HP Accessory Center there.
  • If it works on the second device, the issue is with your first computer.
  • If it fails on both, the problem is with the key itself.

Check the Battery

  • If your HP Programmable Key uses a battery, check if it’s low.
  • Replace or recharge the battery as needed.
  • Low power can prevent proper communication with the app.

Hope this helps, Please revert if the issue persists.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
