Bought a brand new HP Envy x360 15 laptop with HP Rechargeable MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen (came with laptop). Plugged and charged with USB-C cable. Light on top of pen turned orange after a log while light turned white. Have not been able to pair to laptop. Looked extensively for instructions. Followed the few steps I found to pair to laptop. Have not succeeded after 3 days of trying. Does anyone have any suggestions? Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Hi @Hawkeye58,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be glad to help you!

I understand how frustrating it must be to deal with pairing issues for a brand-new device, especially after trying for a few days. Let's go through some steps to get your HP Rechargeable MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen paired with your HP Envy x360 15 laptop.

  1. When you press the button on the pen, do you see any indication on the laptop that it is detecting the pen, such as a notification or the Bluetooth settings updating?
  2. Have you checked that Bluetooth is enabled on your laptop and that there are no conflicts with other Bluetooth devices?
  3. Have you tried the pairing process on a fresh reboot of your laptop or by disabling and re-enabling Bluetooth?

Let's try these steps.

Ensure Bluetooth is Enabled:

  • Open Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & Other Devices on your laptop and make sure that Bluetooth is turned on. If it's already on, try toggling it off and back on again to reset the connection.
  • Ensure your laptop is in pairing mode by selecting Add Bluetooth or other device and choosing Bluetooth from the options.

Update Bluetooth Drivers:

  • Check for updates to the Bluetooth drivers on your laptop by going to Device Manager > Bluetooth, right-clicking on the Bluetooth driver, and selecting Update Driver.
  • If no update is available, try uninstalling and then reinstalling the driver to ensure it's not a software issue.

Pairing the Pen:

  • Hold down the power button on your HP Rechargeable MPP 2.0 Tilt Pen for 3-5 seconds. The light should start blinking white, indicating that the pen is in pairing mode.
  • On your laptop, in the Bluetooth & Other Devices settings, select Add Bluetooth or other device and click Bluetooth. Choose the pen from the list of available devices.

Check for Interference or Conflicts:

  • Turn off any other Bluetooth devices that may be interfering with the pairing process, as having too many devices connected or nearby could cause issues.
  • Additionally, check if any updates for Windows are pending that could be affecting Bluetooth functionality.

Test the Pen on Another Device:

  • To rule out any issues with the pen itself, try pairing it with another Bluetooth-capable device, like a tablet or another laptop, to see if the issue persists.
  • If the pen works with another device, the issue could be specific to your laptop’s Bluetooth connection.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Thank you Elohi_NR for getting back to me.

- For starters, this is a brand new out of the box laptop and pen. When I first charged the pen the light on top was amber and when fully charged turned white. I have never been able to get it to turn blue no matter which button I press or for how long. Every time I try any suggestion I find I plug the pen again, get the amber light and quickly get the white, obviously I have not used it. BUT, no matter what I do I never get the pen to the BLUE indication light.

- Second, I have tried my other PC and again I never see an indicator to connect anything remotely associated with this pen.

- Third, I have tried my tablet with the same situation as above. Perhaps this pen is never getting to Bluetooth Mode turned on since I do not get any Blue light on the pen.

- Interestingly, the pen is seen by the PC. When I press the pen against the screen, the Pen & Windows Ink settings can be seen. But the pen never connects via Bluetooth so none of the settings function. I can draw, hand write and scroll but none of the buttons on the pen work. None of the commands on the Pen and Windows settings work.

I am not sure the pen is actually seen but the system.

Any suggestions?

Roberto

I had similar issues when first using the pen. It does not run off of Bluetooth at all. This does cause problems with settings like checking the battery level and whatnot, but using the MyHP app, you can still program the buttons on the pen. There are a limited number of settings for it, and it does not always function well as a mouse/cursor. For writing purposes in any app that I've used, it works fine.

As for connecting it, there is no process, it connects immediately and can be used on any compatible device so long as the pen's battery is not dead. I have friends with compatible computers and I am able to write on my screen and theirs without hesitation. The settings for the pen (set from your computer) will carry over to any other compatible device in that scenario.
