Is HP Setup Manager obsolete in 2016 and beyond?  After upgrading to Windows 10 the HP Setup Manager will not run.  "This app has been blocked for your protection."  The only way to run it is to log in to the hidden Administrator account. Is it worth going to the effort to resurrect it, or is it outdated and therefore should be removed?

Guess I just never used it on my Windows 7 laptop-never even saw it. I am a jump in and explore on my own type. 🙂

I looked and it isn't even on this Windows 10 laptop I am using so it probably isn't even used anymore by HP on their machines. Most of the features it lists is stuff you can do on your own. For example, if you are setting up a printer run the software/driver disc that comes with it- it walks you through it. Stuff like "protect your computer" probably was details about the trial Anti-virus app that comes on most laptops. As far as backup- you can find that in Control Panel.

If the program is listed in Programs and Features in Control Panel you should be able to Uninstall it there.

Not sure what HP Setup Manager is actually used for- have never seen/ used it on any of numerous laptops I have had over the years. I would think it is obsolete if it came installed on an earlier OS.

Yes, HP Setup Manager came installed on my Windows 7 laptop and desktop.  The title on the home screen is:  "Set up and explore some of the great features included with your new computer."  The options listed on the home screen are:

  • Set up your printer
  • Protect your computer
  • Set up backups
  • Get connected
  • Get assistance
  • Transfer your files
  • Browse accessories

I'd like to get confirmation that everything here is easily accomplished elsewhere with more current settings before I try to blow it away.  And if indeed it can and should be removed, I'd be grateful for instructions on the best method to remove it.
