Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hello,

I had upgraded from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1 Pro, some time ago. And since then, my fingerprint scanner has no longer worked.

I've been tryin' to open up a ".tsd" file, but unfortunately, I keep receiving the same error message: "Please try again" WITHOUT EVEN RUNNING MY FINGER ACROSS THE READER!

I have tried:

  • Making sure all my drivers & SimplePass software is up-to-date
  • uninstalling & re-installing my Validity Sensor (WBF) (PID=0018) driver (sp58900); as well HP SimplePass software (sp86959)
  • Reverting back to an older HP SimplePass version

Any suggestions?

Many thanks in advance for fixing this issue!

I had pretty much the same issue. I am running windows 10, and know using the Windows Hello fingerprint management software. The lastest update from Win 10 killed the driver.

Here is what I did.

1) Go to Device manager, find the fingerprint scanner and uninstall the driver, right click

2) Restart the computer

3) Reinstall the a new driver, tried the HP one a bunch of times, didn't work for me. Went on a different forum, and found this one.

It's a Lenovo driver but works the same.

4) Restarted the computer

5) Went back to Windows Hello and now the fingerprint scanner works

Good luck, hope that works for you. Key is to install the driver first, then the software.
