HP Spectre x360 14 inch 2-in-1 Laptop PC 14-eu0000 (7K634AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I just got my HP Spectre 14 X360 3 days ago. I used it out of the box and on the first charge without any updates applied it charged to 80% as the battery optimization feature kicked in. Then I updated all the drivers, BIOS etc. Now the battery charges to 100% every time. The option to limit the charge to 80% is just gone. In the BIOS there is a setting called Battery Optimization which shows "Enabled" but nothing happens with that. On diagnosing the battery with HP's tool, the battery shows a normal status and mentions "Battery Optimizer - Enabled/Not Activated". I spoke to HP support and they say that this feature kicks in automatically when the laptop senses its needed. That doesn't make sense to me. Also, the documentation online from HP shows info from 2019 where you can perhaps toggle this setting in the BIOS.Nothing current.   I have used numerous laptops in the past other than HP and they all have a toggle to turn this feature on/off. Does anyone else face this issue ? I feel disappointed buying such an expensive laptop and not having this simple feature which was actually there in a previous update but now no longer there. Alternatively, is there any 3rd party software that can do this same action of limiting the charge to 80%? Thanks.

Hi @sunster77,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It's frustrating to deal with issues like this, especially with a new and high-end laptop. Here's a detailed approach to resolve the problem with your HP Spectre X360 14's battery optimization feature.

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting

Verify BIOS Settings:

  • Restart your laptop and enter the BIOS setup (usually by pressing F10 during startup).
  • Navigate to the Power or Advanced settings section.
  • Confirm that the Battery Optimization setting is enabled. Sometimes, resetting BIOS to default settings and then re-enabling Battery Optimization can help.

HP Support Assistant and Windows Settings:

  • Open HP Support Assistant and check for any additional updates that might be pending.
  • Go to Windows Settings > System > Power & sleep > Additional power settings > Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings. Look for any specific battery settings here.

Battery Calibration:

  • Fully charge your laptop to 100%, then let it discharge completely until it shuts down.
  • Recharge it to 100% without interruption. This can sometimes recalibrate the battery sensor and might prompt the battery optimization feature to kick in.

HP Battery Health Manager:

  • Open the HP Command Center (if available). Sometimes, HP laptops come with a utility where you can manage battery health and settings.
  • Check for any options related to battery health management and optimization.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hi Alden. Thank you fornthe detailed guide. However I have tried all of this. Reset the laptop once and checked again. But somehow the feature is just not seen. In the Bios battery optimization shows as enabled. But no other settings are available in the command center too.  I charged to 100% and discharged the battery 3 times. But the 80% charge limit doesn't kick in. As you said after paying so much, not getting such a basic feature is frustrating. Please take this up with HP and provide us with some update or app which can make this happen. Thanks.
