My sound volume has drastically decreased on my laptop since the driver was updated from Realtek to intel smart sound.

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

 

The Intel Smart Sound driver could override the Realtek driver, which might be cause a reduction in volume output. Here are a few troubleshooting steps:

Roll Back the Audio Driver

  1. Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
  2. Expand Sound, video and game controllers.
  3. Right-click on Intel Smart Sound Technology and choose Properties.
  4. Go to the Driver tab and click Roll Back Driver (if available).
  5. Restart your laptop and check if the sound returns to normal.

Reinstall the Realtek Audio Driver

  1. Open Device Manager again.
  2. Right-click Intel Smart Sound Technology and choose Uninstall device. Check the box for Delete the driver software for this device and confirm.
  3. Download the latest Realtek Audio Driver from your laptop manufacturer’s website.
  4. Install the driver and restart your laptop.

Change Default Audio Device

  1. Right-click on the Speaker icon in the taskbar and select Sound settings.
  2. Scroll down to Advanced sound options.
  3. Check if Realtek Audio is available and set it as the Default device.

Adjust Audio Enhancements

  1. Go to Control PanelSound.
  2. Under the Playback tab, select your audio device and click Properties.
  3. Go to the Enhancements tab and check/uncheck Loudness Equalization.
  4. Apply the changes and test your sound.
