HP Spectre x360 Convertible 15-df1xxx15-df1xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi, when I select to close my OneDrive Personal Vault my HP Spectre x360 Convertible crashes with a stop kernel error (blue screen of death).  This happen every time Personal Vault is closed ( on reboot the Windows notification centre shows that vault has been closed).

Usually reboots when the diagnostics dump is complete, however this time it did not and the laptop made a horrible buzzing sound.   The only way to shutdown the laptop was to hold down the power button until it turned off.

Can only see the following errors in Event Viewer at the time the laptop crashes (which may or may not be related).

The Compaq Dfw service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

Which occurs after the following was recorded in event viewer at information status.

A service was installed in the system.

Service Name: Compaq Dfw
Service File Name: System32\drivers\cpqdfw.sys
Service Type: kernel mode driver
Service Start Type: demand start

The hpvision service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

Which occurs after the following was recorded in event viewer at information status.

A service was installed in the system.

Service Name: hpvision
Service File Name: system32\drivers\hp64vision.sys
Service Type: kernel mode driver
Service Start Type: demand start

Has anyone seen the same or similar issue, or know of a solution?

@iangr, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

To assist you better, kindly mentioned the complete error message/code you see on the blue screen.

You may refer to this document to know how to resolve blue screen errors.

Install updates using HP Support Assistant

  1. In the search box, type and open HP Support Assistant.
  2. Check for updates.
  3. If the updates are available, click on install and restart the computer.

Note: If you do not have HP Support Assistant installed, Click here to download the same.

Also, make sure windows is up to date.

Let us run a test on the hardware components of the PC

  1. Hold the power button for at least five seconds to turn off the computer.
  2. Turn on the computer and immediately press Esc repeatedly, about once every second. When the menu appears, press the F2 key.
  3. Perform System Test > Extensive test. Share the result on your next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi Kumar0307

Sorry for not responding sooner, but it was a very busy week at work.

I have carrying out the following.

  • Checked HP Support Assist and verified that there were no outstanding software or drivers to install.
  • Verified that there were no outstanding Windows Updates to install.
  • Windows 10 version is 1909 build 18363.900
  • Verified that locking the OneDrive Personal Vault only causes the laptop to crash when it is running on battery (does not occur when the mains adaptor is plugged in and turned on).
  • The error message shown on the blue screen is KERNAL MODE HEAP CORRUPTION
  • Ran the Extensive System Test and it passed showing no errors. See log below.
