Since yesterday, my camera shutter button is constantly lit (camera is disabled/privacy-enabled). The camera appears to work but the image is permanently stuck on the privacy image:
It seems to get disabled instantly on reboot (whereas the microphone gets disabled much later in the boot process)
I've tried looking for updates and even uninstalling and reinstalling the driver. Nothing works
Is the driver supposed to say "unknown supplier"?

I managed to fix the issue by unplugging the laptop and disconnecting the internal battery for 30 seconds. If your computer is still under warranty, perhaps you can do the same with a "Windows 11 hard shutdown". I haven't tried that

Thank you for sharing, I had the same issue and you helped me to solve it. The e-shutter button was stuck for no apparent reasons, I tried everything and nothing has worked (uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, reset to factory...). Now I fixed it by disconnecting the internal battery for 30 seconds.

I had this issue as well that started around the same time. I tried everything including updating windows, running diagnostics on the support app, and doing a full shutdown. I eventually ended up on the HP support site where they allow you to input your serial number and device number to get BIOS and other driver updates. I installed "Intel Human Interface Device (HID) Event Filter Driver" from the list and that seemed to fix the problem. Hopefully works for others as well.

Yes! This is the starting point I used that took me to the driver download page:
https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/laptops
When you get there, it will give you instructions on how to get to the right drivers for your laptop. I needed to input my product ID and serial number because the site wasn't able to identify my laptop from name or product ID alone. Both of these can be found in the HP Support Assistant application. Hopefully this works for you!

I had the same problem and there seemed to be a simple fix.
Solution: Just let the battery exhaust itself on the laptop and plug it back in and it might work, it worked for me.
Thank you to the folks that recommended disconnecting the battery!
My computer is past the warranty but I will still disinterested in taking it apart.
