My daughters HP Stream Notebook 11 is bringing up an error message about the battery when it is switching on.  Then it has a message that plugged in and not charging.

The notebook is like new but is actually approx 18mths old. I would of thought the battery should last longer than that.

Can anyone help with this issue.

Hi @garangie,

Good Day! Thanks for taking an interest in the HP Support Forums!. I hope you enjoy your experience! 🙂 It is a terrific place to find answers and tips and to get the best from the community.

I reviewed the post regarding the display skipping frames at 75Hz on your Omen PC. It will be a genuine pleasure to assist you here. 🙂

Stupendous diagnosis and great analysis of the situation after deducing that there is no paper jam or anything like that. Kudos to you for that. 🙂

You are a valued HP customer and it is paramount to assist you here. It has been an absolute pleasure to work with you. 🙂

For better clarity and to assist you better I would require more information?

  • When did this first happen?
  • Does the battery hold any charge? I mean what happens when the charger is unplugged?
  • Did this happen after any software or windows update?
  • Please provide the model# and the operating system of the unit?

For now please perform these steps.

Please try to test and calibrate the battery from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Stream-11-Notebook-PC/7372144/model/7538969/document/c0470077...

Please update the bios and chipset drivers from this link: http://hp.com/drivers and follow the on-screen instructions after selecting the country.

Then please calibrate the battery from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-Stream-11-Notebook-PC/7372144/model/7538969/document/c0025989...

If I unplug the cable the computer just switches off. The battery is not holding any charge at all.  There is also an error message on start up about the battery having a fault.

This started a few days ago.

Hi @garangie,

Thanks for the super quick reply. I reviewed the post comprehensively. So it certainly looks like a hardware issue with the unit and the battery needs to be replaced. Please run diagnostics on the battery from this link: http://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c03467259 and follow the option "Running the UEFI Component Tests" Please run all component tests

If the battery does not get detected or if the battery test fails, then please make a note of the failure code and contact HP phone support to get the unit replaced by following these steps:

Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/

Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect

Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"

Step 4. Scroll down and click: HP contact options - click on Get phone number, Case number and phone number appear.

They will be happy to assist you immediately.

If the unit is under warranty then the warranty takes care of it for you, otherwise it could be fee-based support.

To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help.

If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles. Smiley Happy
