My HP Support Assistant is stuck with for messages and an i in the notification area and in the my devices area of the app. I have just finished updating the app and don't want to uninstall and reinstall as it is almost finally working right except for this issue.

I may not understand what is happening - the sentence structure is lacking enough that I might be missing your meaning.

OK, moving forward and making assumptions...
A quick Google search picked up at least a couple of sites that purport to have version 8.7.50.3 of the HP Support Assistant for download.
One of them shows some wrong information (filename.exe, for example). Other comments withheld about that subject.
Another site provides the download out of its own servers. No visible filename. Not doing that. (Personal choice.)
and...
I do not find this HPSA version at the HP site. I might have missed it; I don't see version 8.7.50.3 at the HP download server.
Considering that, I will guess at the content of the mystery version and make assumptions about any issues.
What is going on with HPSA?
In general, the HPSA fails for a number of reasons, only a few of which are under your direct control.
You cannot control, for example, any communication beyond your own network. The "glitch" could be anywhere along the long journey between the HP server containing your computer drivers and your own computer. Network traffic, server error, missing data, a tiny instruction gone awry - lots of places and ways for things to go wrong along the way.
If your network is slow, full of packet errors, or other weaknesses, communication between the HP Server and the computer can break down - or at least lag and lose cohesiveness. Lost instructions, lost connection, lost data can be the result of an ugly network.
If your computer was at some point migrated past the supported version of Windows (not a valid concern in this case), HPSA is not smart enough to know you are sending it on a wild goose chase after non-existent updates for an unsupported version of the Operating System. The program will search (and search) for the drivers, spinning and stalling. (Hopefully, this sort of error will be fixed in the code in a future release.)
If your computer is missing a software or driver package, HPSA does not know this is the case, search out the correct software / driver for your computer, download and install the missing software. This is not a "failure"; HPSA an update software and not a "Figure it out and install everything" software.
If the issue is due to something in your HPSA profile (machine and personal data associated with the program), then removing and reinstalling HPSA and its companion software will perhaps fix the problem
- Uninstall HPSA, including the personal data (profile)
- Restart the computer and log in
- Uninstall the HP Support Solutions Software
- Restart the computer and log in
- Download-save-Install a fresh copy of the HP Support Assistant software. (HP Support Solutions installs with HPSA)
- Restart the computer and log in
In that you have a version with which I am unfamiliar, I can guess the steps are the same.
