HP ENVY 17.3 inch Laptop PC 17-cr0000 (538A1AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Main screen reference of HP Support Assistant:

FIXES & Diagnostics   -    Optimize your performance

Additional option:  Clearing Web Browsers History, etc.

In running the above option it is found this error:

  1. [E1] Could not find a part of the path “C:\Users\Morgana\AppData\Google\Chrome\UsersData\Default\Cache”

When I installed Windows 11 Pro, I think that Windows automatically re-named my username in "C:\Users" folder with the first 5 characters of my email address I used for the Microsoft account truncating it to: Morga.

Can you help me to solve this problem considering that I am the only User & Administrator of my PC as well as of the Microsoft Account.

Thanx GabyBel

Hi @GabyBel,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error occurs because HP Support Assistant is trying to access a path that doesn’t match your current Windows username directory. When you set up your Microsoft account, Windows often truncates the user folder name, leading to mismatched paths. Here's how you can resolve the issue.

Update the Path or Correct the User Folder Name

You have two main options to fix this issue:

Update the Path in HP Support Assistant

  1. Open HP Support Assistant.
  2. Go to the settings or advanced options related to diagnostics or browser cache cleanup.
  3. Check for an option to specify or modify paths manually.
  4. Update the incorrect path C:\Users\Morgana\... to the correct one, C:\Users\Morga\....
  5. Save the changes and retry the operation.

If the software doesn’t allow manual path updates, proceed to Option 2.

Change Your User Folder Name

This is a more technical process. You’ll need to create a new user profile or edit the existing one carefully.

Create a Local Administrator Account

  1. Open SettingsAccountsFamily & other users.
  2. Click Add someone else to this PCI don’t have this person’s sign-in information.
  3. Choose Add a user without a Microsoft account and create a new local user account.
  4. Set this account as an Administrator.

Rename the User Folder

  1. Log in with the new Administrator account.
  2. Navigate to C:\Users.
  3. Rename the folder Morga to Morgana.
    • If the folder is locked, reboot into Safe Mode and try renaming it again.

Update Registry Entries

  1. Press Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter.
  2. Navigate to the following path:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

  1. Look for the entry with your old user profile path (C:\Users\Morga).
  2. Double-click the ProfileImagePath key and update it to C:\Users\Morgana.

Revert to Your Microsoft Account

  1. Log back into the renamed user account.
  2. Link it to your Microsoft account under SettingsAccountsYour Info.

Verify and Test

  • Open HP Support Assistant and retry the operation.
  • Confirm that the error is resolved.

Bypass the Problem

If changing the folder name seems too complex or risky, you can bypass the browser cache cleanup feature:

  1. Open Google Chrome.
  2. Clear the cache manually:
    • Go to SettingsPrivacy and SecurityClear browsing data.
  3. Skip using HP Support Assistant for this task.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
