I was trying to perform a maintenance job, but every time I tried to use HP SA to search for updates, it asked me for a reboot. In the prompt window, the "Restart Later" option is clickable, but "Restart Now" isn’t.

I have already tried:

-> Uninstalling, rebooting, and installing again
-> Running sfc /scannow

I also checked the Event Viewer, but found nothing related to the problem. Maybe it's some registry key?

You are welcome.

I don't have a solution for stubborn HPSA behavior.

It's either hung up on something or it "sees" something it cannot clear.

??

After having checked your Software & Drivers page, are there any updates that are recent enough that you might need to consider updating your drivers?  Manually installing drivers is common.

If you wish for us to check what is listed in your system's Software & Drivers, we need to know the Operating System / version PLUS the computer model name as it appears after you select and open the  HP Product Home

OR

Perhaps one of our agents or another Expert who actually uses the product more frequently than I do will have additional tips.

Could be anything -- HP Support Assistant has its own rules about how it operates and sometimes it does seem to get tangled.

-- Reminder to those reading --

HP Support Assistant is a consumer grade application.

Should you have a supported business class system, consider using the HP Image Assistant !

-------------------------------------------------------------

The HPSA is (at least, used to be) particularly vulnerable to trying to update on older computer for which there are not actually any current HP updates or new drivers.  What?  HPSA cannot (could not) understand how to simply extract itself when there are not updates available.

-- Dragon Opinion -- NOT part of HP policy --

The HPSA might be vulnerable to misunderstanding the BIOS update mechanism.

The best option is to avoid using HPSA to update the BIOS.

---------------------------------------------------

Two ideas...

1)  Do not use the HP Support Assistant to perform software and driver updates.

Instead,

Open the product home page for your computer

 HP Product Home

Enter the device type and model name of your HP product

Open category Software & Drivers

If asked, change / submit the current Operating System / version.

Peruse the list of updates - Decide what / if to install.

2)  Uninstall / Reinstall the HP Support Application

HP Support Assistant Application, when installed from the Microsoft Store, is found in Settings

Windows 10 > Settings > Apps > Apps and Features

Dragon-Fur, thank you for your reply!

I followed your advice about updating the BIOS directly from the product home page, but it was already on the latest available version. I also uninstalled it again following your second suggestion, but the result was the same:

  • It doesn’t search for updates because a dialog box pops up saying that I need to restart the PC in order to search. However, no matter how many times I manually reboot it (using the Windows menu → Restart), it still asks for a reboot before searching for updates.

Thank you for the clarification and for taking the time to check.

For now, I will opt to manually install the drivers whenever necessary. That should allow me to keep the system updated without relying on HPSA.

I appreciate your help and the suggestions you provided. Thank you!
