HP needs to evaluate it's update logic in HP Support Assistant. It routinely suggests driver updates for versions older than what is already installed. Then, an attempt to install that older version (just to see what HSA does) only results in "Failed" with no explanation or detail. Does HSA even interrogate currently installed drivers for the version number or is it blindly relying upon some wildly inaccurate control file or automation?

Hi @MSStateDawg,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for sharing the screenshots and detailed explanation. I completely understand the frustration here, especially when HP Support Assistant recommends installing a Bluetooth driver that is clearly older than the version already installed on the system, and then the installation simply fails without providing any meaningful explanation.

From the screenshots, I can see:

  • Your currently installed Intel Bluetooth driver version is 24.40.0.3
  • HP Support Assistant is attempting to install 24.30.1.1, which is older than the currently installed version

In situations like this, HP Support Assistant may not always correctly evaluate drivers that were installed through:

  • Microsoft Windows Update
  • Intel Driver & Support Assistant
  • Or directly from the component manufacturer instead of the HP package itself

Because of that, HPSA can sometimes rely on its internal package catalog/control logic and incorrectly flag an older HP SoftPaq as “recommended,” even though a newer driver is already present on the system. When the installation then detects a newer version already installed or a mismatch condition, it may simply fail without giving a detailed reason.

Based on the information you shared, your currently installed Bluetooth driver already appears newer than the HP package being offered, so there is likely no need to downgrade or reinstall that older package.

We do appreciate you bringing this behavior to attention. I will forward this feedback regarding the HP Support Assistant driver evaluation logic and version detection behavior to the relevant backend team for further review and improvement consideration.

Thank you as well for providing the screenshots clearly showing the version mismatch and failed installation behavior.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
