When I start HP Support Assistant, I'm greeted with a signin screen. When I click signin, a web page in my (Brave) browser opens to login to the HP web site. I login with email & password and I'm redirected to an error message that says. (Title) HP Support Assistant (Message) (Bold) Alert (New line) An unknown error occurred.
When I click OK on that message box, it just brings me back to the signin screen and I can do it all day long... I tried uninstalling and re-installing, but, no difference.

Hi @cooperbry,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be glad to help you!
I can understand how frustrating it must be to deal with the endless login loop and the error message with HP Support Assistant. Let's work through some troubleshooting steps to get this resolved.
- Have you tried using a different browser (like Chrome or Edge) to sign in, or is this issue only happening in Brave?
- Have you recently made any changes to your HP account, like changing the password or enabling two-factor authentication, which could be interfering with the sign-in process?
- Does the HP Support Assistant work for other features on your laptop, or is it only the sign-in process that's causing issues?
1. Clear Browser Cache and Cookies
- Since the error occurs when opening HP Support Assistant via the browser, try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies to eliminate any outdated session data. You can do this in Brave’s settings under Privacy and Security > Clear browsing data.
2. Check Browser Settings and Extensions
- Sometimes, browser extensions (like ad blockers or privacy-focused add-ons) can interfere with login processes. Try disabling any extensions in Brave, especially those related to privacy or security (e.g., ad blockers, anti-tracking tools). Alternatively, you can test the sign-in process in Incognito Mode to rule out extensions.
3. Try Different Browser or Switch to Microsoft Edge
- As a workaround, try using a different browser like Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome. Sometimes, certain websites and services work better on other browsers.
4. Reinstall HP Support Assistant
- Although you've already reinstalled it, try performing a full uninstall of HP Support Assistant. Then, after restarting your computer, reinstall it from the official HP Support website to ensure you have the latest version.
5. Check for Windows and HP Support Assistant Updates
- Make sure both Windows 11 and HP Support Assistant are up to date. Go to Settings > Update & Security to check for any pending Windows updates. Additionally, open HP Support Assistant (if it opens at all) and check for any updates to the app itself.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
