How can I turn off the Support Assistant toolbar but still leave it available?  I know I can deselect it each time I turn on the laptop, but isn't there a way to have it default to being off until needed?

I reviewed your post and I understand that you want to remove the HP support assistant from the startup applications.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you follow the below steps and check if it helps.

  1. Right-click on the taskbar and select Task Manager.
  2. On the Startup tab in Task Manager, look for HP support assistant, select the item and then click Disable.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
