HP Support Assistant on one of my laptops keeps saying I need to update the firmware on my HP Envy 6200 series printer. I check for updates from the printer front panel and it reports that it is updated. About once a month I get a red exclamation mark on my HPSA icon on the taskbar. I tried to download and install the suggested update and that fails. I delete the notification and it stops for a while, but returns after another month. My other laptop has no problem with the printer firmware.

I used the link you supplied and the result was I already had the latest version installed. I chose to install over the current revision anyway. The HPSA appears to be working OK now. I'll see if the message returns after a while. So far so good.

Hi @bobnspkn

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I'd be happy to assist you.

If you have checked for the firmware update on the printer control panel and it says there are none available, it means that the printer is up to date.

Click here to know different methods of updating printer firmware.

Try reinstalling the HPSA application with an updated version.

Click here to download the latest version of HPSA

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

the red  (!) indicator on the HPSA icon re-appeared, which leads to update for printer firmware is available. The printer firmware is up to date. The re-install of HPSA did not fix the error.

@bobnspkn, that's unfortunate.

Kindly create a new user account and check if the issue persists.

Refer to this document to know how to create a new user account.

Alternatively, you may delete the message on the HPSA app

  1. To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon .
  2. Click My devices to see My PC. In this box, there are two options, Updates and Messages, both of which could require attention. You know attention is required if you see an exclamation mark.
  3. Click Updates if it has an exclamation mark next to it.
  4. From the Updates available section, check the boxes for all the updates, then click Download and install.
  5. Follow any on-screen instructions.

  6. Click Messages if it has an exclamation mark next to it.

  7. In the Messages are available screen, click into the messages to read them. When you are finished, click the  to the right of each message to delete it.

  8. Deleting available messages

    Restart your computer.

    The exclamation mark should be gone.

Let me know how this goes.

I have an HP Envy Photo 7155 printer.  Firmware Revision: PALFASPPXN003.1931B.00.

I reinstalled HP Support Assistant.  It still is reporting the need for 2 updates.  Both of them appear to be the same firmware update (Version 1925 - 58.44MB).  One has a Download and Install red button and the other states '*You must sign in to this device to install updates.'  When I check at the printer panel - Setup - Printer Maintenance - Update the Printer - Check for Updates Now, it states that 'the most current updates have been installed'.  Wjen I click on the Download and Install button, it starts the HP Printer Update installer.  When HP Printer Update installer launches it brings me to a screen to select my printer.  It correctly identifies my printer but I am unable to select it so the update cannot proceed.

I've chased this several times now.  It is pretty frustrating to have some tools reporting the need for updates which (1) do not allow you to install the updates and (2) appear to be reporting incorrectly the need for updates.  Can someone point me to (1) a method to resolve the incorrect reporting and (2) a consistent method to check for and install printer updates.

Thank you.

The steps you've listed eventually take me back to a choice of going to the HP Community (where I am currently)  or having to call in with a potential charge.  Is this what you intended or did I misinterpret your instructions?  When I go thru the steps the HP Printer Update shows my printer with a Version of PALFASPPXN003.1931B.00.   HP Support Assistant is reporting that I need to update the firmware of my HP Envy Photo 7155 to Version: 1925.  Isn't my printer already at a higher firmware level?

@ru55T

According to the HP Support site, 1925A is the latest firmware version available for HP ENVY Photo 7100 All-in-One Printer series. As the printer is not allowing you to perform the update from the printer control panel, you may either try updating via HP Smart app or from a computer.

Let me know how this goes.
