About 10 minutes after starting Microsoft Edge browser on my laptop, the HP Support page starts to open an endless number of tabs. This is the address that shows in the top of the browser window.
Is the HP Support Assistant app on my laptop causing this.

Hi @PatD9
Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.
My sincere apologies for this inconvenience caused.
Yes, the HP Support Assistant app may be triggering this behavior, especially if it's trying to access support resources through Microsoft Edge and encountering a loop or misconfiguration. Disabling or updating the app can help stop the tabs from opening.
Here’s how to restore calm to your browser and prevent the support page from flooding your screen:
1. Disable HP Support Assistant from Startup
This prevents it from launching automatically and initiating browser activity.
- Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager
- Go to the Startup tab
- Right-click HP Support Assistant and choose Disable
- Restart your laptop and monitor Edge behavior
2. Uninstall HP Support Assistant (if not needed)
If you don’t actively use the app, removing it can eliminate the issue entirely.
- Go to Settings > Apps > Installed Apps
- Search for HP Support Assistant
- Click Uninstall and follow the prompts
You can always reinstall it later from the HP Support Assistant page if needed.
3. Clear Edge Startup Behavior
Edge may be trying to reopen previous sessions or preload tabs.
- Open Microsoft Edge
- Go to Settings > Start, home, and new tabs
- Under “When Edge starts,” select Open a new tab
- Disable “Continue where you left off” and any preloading options
4. Check Scheduled Tasks
HP Support Assistant may be running background tasks that trigger browser actions.
- Press Windows + R, type taskschd.msc, and press Enter
- In the left pane, go to Task Scheduler Library > Hewlett-Packard
- Right-click any tasks related to HP Support Assistant and choose Disable
5. Update or Reinstall HP Support Assistant (if preferred)
If you want to keep using the app, updating it may resolve the loop.
- Visit the HP Support Assistant download page
- Download the latest version and install it over the existing one
Let me know how your system responds after these steps. Once the loop is broken, Edge should stay clean and focused, letting you browse without interruption.
If my response helped, please mark it as an Accepted Solution! ✅ It helps others and spreads support. 💙 Also, tapping "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" makes a big difference! Thanks! 😊
Take care, and have an amazing day!
