Hewlett-Packard - USB - 11/11/2018 12:00:00 AM - 49.0.4395.18315
Microsoft Windows 11

HELLO I FORMERLY OWNED A HP NOTEBOOK BEFORE UPGRADING TO A DIFFERENT FLAVOR/BRAND. NO LONGER THE OWNER OF SAID HP NOTEBOOK, I DO HAVE HP PRINTERS I OPERATE AND RUN CONTINUOUSLY THROUGH MY NEW LAPTOP. IN THE SETTINGS UNDER "ADDITIONAL UPDATES" I'M UNABLE TO RID MY  SYSTEM OF THIS "Hewlett-Packard - USB - 11/11/2018 12:00:00 AM - 49.0.4395.18315" WHICH I SEE FROM FORMER POSTS WILL SEARCH MY "HP NOTEBOOK" TO FIND MISSING DRIVERS. WONDERFUL, EXCEPT I NO LONGER OPERATE AN HP NOTEBOOK, RATHER AN ASUS 13th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-13620H 2.40 GHz WITH WINDOWS 11. IT SEEMS IT WILL NOT SEARCH MY ASUS TO FIND MISSING DRIVERS.

SUGGESTIONS? IF IT IS NOT COMPATIBLE HOW DO I DELETE THE UPDATE?

THANKS

CCMG

Hi @CupCakesMcGee,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

To delete the "Hewlett-Packard - USB - 11/11/2018 12:00:00 AM - 49.0.4395.18315" update from your system, follow these steps:

Uninstall the Update from Windows Update History:

  • Open Settings.
  • Go to Update & Security > Windows Update.
  • Click on View update history.
  • Click on Uninstall updates.
  • Find the specific update in the list, right-click it, and select Uninstall.

Use Device Manager to Remove Associated Drivers:

  • Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
  • Expand the Universal Serial Bus controllers section.
  • Look for any entries related to HP or Hewlett-Packard. Right-click and select Uninstall device.
  • Check the box that says Delete the driver software for this device if it appears.
  • Restart your computer.

Delete Leftover Files and Registry Entries:

  • Press Win + R, type regedit, and press Enter to open the Registry Editor.
  • Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Hewlett-Packard and delete the key if it exists.
  • Navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Hewlett-Packard and delete the key if it exists.
  • Caution: Be careful while editing the registry. Deleting the wrong keys can cause system issues.

Clear Windows Update Cache:

  • Open Command Prompt as an administrator (search for cmd in the Start menu, right-click, and select Run as administrator).
  • Stop the Windows Update service by typing: net stop wuauserv and press Enter.
  • Stop the Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) by typing: net stop bits and press Enter.
  • Go to the SoftwareDistribution folder by typing: cd %windir%\SoftwareDistribution and press Enter.
  • Rename the SoftwareDistribution folder by typing: ren SoftwareDistribution SoftwareDistribution.old and press Enter.
  • Restart the Windows Update service by typing: net start wuauserv and press Enter.
  • Restart the BITS service by typing: net start bits and press Enter.
  • Close the Command Prompt and restart your computer.

Hide the Update Using Windows Update Show/Hide Tool:

  • Download and run the Show or hide updates troubleshooter from the Microsoft support website.
  • Follow the prompts to hide the specific Hewlett-Packard update.

Following these steps should help you remove the unwanted update and prevent it from reinstalling on your ASUS laptop.

If this does not help, contact the ASUS manufacturer for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
