HP Elitebook 820 G4
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

We have a number of HP Elitebook 820 G4 and HP Elitebook 840 G4,

Recently (probably coinciding with upgrading to Windows 10 v1809) some of these computers' webcameras have stopped working entirely in Skype for Business (which can't find the cameras at all), even though the camera works fine in the windows "Camera" app.

What I have found is that all the ones that are not working has the driver "SunplusIT 3.7.8.2" in device manager, and changing this to Microsofts own generic USB-video driver makes the camera work in Skype again. All the ones already working have the "Realtek 10.0.15063.11302" driver.

It appears from unpacking the HP Universal Camera Drivers that both these drivers are included, and based on the .inf files, depending on what Hardware ID the camera has decides which driver is compatible. And indeed, when checking Hardware ID;s, all the computers that are not working have webcameras with Hardware ID;s for the SunplusIT driver, while the working ones have ID;s compatible with the Realtek driver.

My question is this; why do the different computers of the exact same model have different Hardware ID;s and therefore  get different drivers installed?

As well as, is the SunplusIT 3.7.8.2 drivers that is included in HP Universal Camera Drivers tested and confirmed working for Windows 1809?

I tried downloading and updating the SunplusIT driver to 5.0.8.15 that was compatible with the Hardware ID for two computers from Microsofts Update Catalog, and it seems to be working correctly on those two now.

Any way we can find out if/when HP will update their Universal Camera Driver for all clients to support 1809?
