When making a statement like that please, press the quote button on the upper right of this message editor so people will easily know WHAT worked for you. Thanks.

Edit: I double checked after replying. There's nothing pointing back as far as I can see to whatever post you've replied to which makes quoting very important.

Windows 1709 installed 2 weeks ago.... I have been getting the same error message.  I tried the softpaq given here but it still says the same - not compatible with this version of windows.  What now? Should I uninstall 1709?

NO!!! Do not uninstall Win1709, as this (uninstalling) is much worse than the error message forced by not correctly working HP 3D Driveguard installments. If you have the HP 3D Driveguard in your apps listed it will most propably work OK. At starting you will only get the annoying message. You can either ignore it (close the message) if it poersist after you have taken all the steps described in earlier posts, or uninstall the 3D Driveguard app completely. Don't forget however that it may protect your HDD whenever you drop your laptop (by accident of course).

Think about what you're optioning security patches and numerous changes that come with a major Windows update vs. getting back a single program thats only purpose is to park your drive in case you drop your laptop while ussing it. And DriveGuard only works when the laptop is on, the heads automatially park when the machine is off.

Hi there!

I tried this fix, but the freshly downloaded HP 3D Driveguard will not show up in my programs and features on my control panel...Have I done something wrong?

Please help!

Just downloading a file doesn't install it, in fact, running the file you download from HP doesn't install it. Please, browse the thread, specific instructions on how to get this installed have been posted several times.

This did not work for me. I have uninstalled successfully the original HP 3D DriveGuard and several different reinstalled suggested by variouys HP Experts on this forum. After each successful reinstall of the HP 3D DriveGuard I still get the error message. I do not get the error message when the file is completely uninstalled. This is a brand new laptop I got today, and there wasn't an error message before updating Windows. Now on  brand new computer I haven't even used yet, accept to update it's software I can't get rid of this error message. Also my fan is constantly running. How do I get rid of this error message.

I have a HP Envy x360 Convertible 15m-bp0xx

Processor: Intel Core i5-7200U CPU @ 2.50GHz 2.71

Edition: Windows 10 Home

Version: 1709

OS Build: 16299.98

DriveGuard 3D is, in my opinion, not that important. In my situation the chances of my laptop falling are slim to none. Your situation may be different. I tried three times, all failed. I'm happily living without the utility. I have no use for it.

As for you fan issue, it could be updates installing in the background. It could be the thrown bloatware every manufacturer loads their PCs with. The first thing I do with any new computer is kill off the anti-virus software, the MS Office 365 trial that's trying to run all the time. It's insane what could be running in the background that's utterly useless. I spent easily an hour with Google looking up the software that's running at startup and using CCleaner to stop them from running.
