HP EliteBook 1040 14 inch G11 Notebook PC (8Y859AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I recently got a new HP EliteBook 1040 G11. I then got an HP active pen G3 for it. The pairing process was smooth. However, after paired the pen with the laptop, the pen doesn't work at all. The setting shows that the pen is connected; however, the pen doesn't do anything when I touch the screen or try to write on Word or other app.

Thank you for reaching out.

It sounds like your HP Active Pen G3 is pairing over Bluetooth, but the touch/digitizer isn’t responding. This happens because the pen relies on both Bluetooth connectivity and the touchscreen/digitizer drivers to work properly — it’s like having a pen in hand, but the canvas isn’t ready for it.

Here’s a step you can try:

Check Windows Pen Settings

  1. Go to Settings → Devices → Pen & Windows Ink.

  2. Make sure “Allow Windows Ink Workspace” and “Show cursor and visual effects” are turned on.

If Windows Ink is disabled, the pen may only work in certain apps, so enabling these settings ensures it responds smoothly across your notebook.

You can also refer to this link for a step-by-step guide on how to pair your pen correctly.

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or reach out again if you need further assistance — we’re here to help your pen glide perfectly across your screen.
