Suddenly, I have an HP Icon in my taskbar tray.  Nothing happens with I right click it.  I can't remove it via settings because it's not there.   When I click on it, it brings up HP Notebook which seems to be internet based?  I don't have any programs installed that are named that.  I can't hide it via taskbar manager because it's not listed.  It's just there and takes me to that Notebook page but I can't find it actually on my laptop anywhere.  It's like a virtual icon.   I don't want it - how do I delete it?  The less things with their tentacles in my business, the better.

Hi @Toobusy

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand your concern about the unexpected HP icon appearing in your taskbar. To help identify the source and remove it, let’s clarify a few points:

  • When you click the icon, it opens HP Notebook in a browser. Could you confirm if this appears to be an installed program or just a shortcut?
  • Please review your Programs & Features list or Apps & Features in Windows Settings to see if any HP software was recently added.
  • It may be related to HP Support Assistant. To confirm, I would request you to click on the icon and share a screenshot of what appears.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
