Hi @Soulflame,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thanks for sharing the details. You're doing a great job trying to install Windows on your HP 17 Laptop PC 17-cp2000 (67K42AV) after upgrading to a new NVMe SSD. The issue you're facing, where the laptop keeps restarting and looping back to the beginning of the Windows installation, is frustrating, but you're not alone. Let's walk through the most likely causes and how to fix them.
Step-by-Step Fix Guide
1. Check BIOS Settings
- Restart your laptop and press Esc or F10 to enter BIOS.
- Go to System Configuration > Boot Options:
- Ensure UEFI Boot Mode is enabled.
- Disable Legacy Boot if it's on.
- Under Storage Configuration, confirm that the NVMe SSD is detected.
2. Use Proper Installation Media
- Use the official Windows 11 Media Creation Tool from HP: 👉 HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 11 and 10 | HP® Support
- Format the USB drive as GPT and use UEFI boot.
3. Load NVMe Storage Drivers During Setup
If Windows setup doesn’t detect the drive or loops:
- Download Intel Rapid Storage Technology (IRST) drivers from HP: 👉 HP 17 Laptop PC 17-cp2000 Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support
- Extract the driver files to a separate USB drive.
- During Windows setup, click Load Driver and point to the extracted folder.
4. Disconnect Internet During Setup
Sometimes Windows tries to update during install and causes restarts. Try installing offline first, then update later.
5. Avoid Reboot Loop
After the first part of the setup (copying files), remove the USB drive when the system restarts. This prevents it from booting back into setup again.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
