Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

I see that your experiencing password issue with HP laptop. Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

  • What is the product number of your device? Use this link to find it: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03754824 (Ensure you do not share any of your personal information such as serial, phone number, email ID, etc...).
  • Have you attempted any steps on your own before posting on the HP Forums?
  • Have you performed Windows update on your PC?
  • When was the last time it worked fine?
  • when you're getting this message? (password is forgotten)
  • Have you previously created local password reset disk or USB drive?

While you respond to that, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:
If you've not created password reset disk or USB drive.
Follow the below steps:

  1. On the sign-in screen, press and hold the Shift key, click the power icon, select Restart, and continue pressing the Shift key until the Choose an option screen displays.

  2. Click Troubleshoot.

    Clicking the Troubleshoot button

  3. Click Reset this PC, and then click Remove everything.

Keep my files and Remove everything options

  4. Click Only the drive where Windows is installed.

Remove all files from the drive where Windows is installed or from all drives

  5. Click Just remove my files, and then click Reset.

    Just remove my files

Windows reinstalls the operating system. When complete the Windows welcome screen displays.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
