Like many others posting about this problem I use the Insert key daily. My new HP Elitebook 840 G5 has replaced the Insert key with other keys I will never use. Fine to add new keys but why take away used frequently by many people with no easy way to restore the Insert key?
Yes, the Fn+E will work for Insert (compared to pressing a single key in a convenient spot, this is not convenient at all).
I tried remapping the "Hangup Phone" or "End Call" key that now replaces the position of the removed Insert key.
MS Power Toys appears to detect it as F14, but is missing something (the key does not work as Insert once remapped by Power Toys).
I found a very good solution that works for me. HP also added a key named "Menu/Apps" which sits between the right-alt and right-ctrl keys lower right of the keyboard. I easily remapped this key as Insert with Power Toys and all works well. Another good choice for some might be the tilde key extreme upper left. Remap the lower case value of left-quote and this easily remaps under Power Toys as well (this assumes you never or rarely use that key).
I hope this is helpful for someone. I am just a user and not a tech support person.
