Can anyone tell me after they scan a document into the printer where do you access it on your laptop so you can then send it via e-mail?

Hello @JD1973, and welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your question. I'm here to help you get things back on track.

If you've scanned a document using your HP Smart Tank 5100 series printer, here's how you can locate it on your laptop and send it via email:

Option 1: Using the HP Smart App (Recommended)

  1. Install the HP Smart app on your laptop from the Microsoft Store or HP Smart
  2. Open the app and select your printer.
  3. Click on Scan > choose Scan from Printer.
  4. After scanning, click Save.
  5. The app will prompt you to choose a location by default, it saves to your Pictures > Scanned Documents folder unless you specify another.

Option 2: Using Windows Fax and Scan

  1. Press Windows + S and search for Windows Fax and Scan.
  2. Open the app and click New Scan.
  3. Select your HP Smart Tank 5100 printer and scan the document.
  4. After scanning, click Save As and choose your desired folder.

Option 3: Using HP Scan Software

If installed, you can use HP Scan:

  1. Open HP Scan from the Start menu.
  2. Choose your scan settings and click Scan.
  3. After scanning, click Save and select the folder.

To Send via Email:

Once the file is saved:

  1. Open your email client (e.g., Outlook, Gmail).
  2. Compose a new email and click Attach File.
  3. Navigate to the folder where the scan was saved (e.g., Pictures > Scanned Documents).
  4. Select the file and send your email.

I hope the information shared has been useful and resolves your concern.

Wishing you a smooth and hassle-free experience ahead!
