I have a 17-cp1000 laptop with Windows 21H2 and the download page only allows updates for Windows 21H2 AND 22H2.

Windows update is suggesting to update to 24H2

Will updating to 24H2 cause any problems with the HP laptop/software/drivers/firmware?

Should HP updates for 17-cp1000 also allow updates for 24H2?

Please advise.

Thanks

@Tracey2032, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Yes, you can upgrade to Windows 11 version 24H2 on your How to use the PC Health Check app - Microsoft Support laptop as long as your hardware meets Microsoft's minimum requirements, which include:

  • TPM 2.0
  • Secure Boot
  • UEFI firmware
  • Supported CPU (Intel Core i3 8th Gen or newer, AMD Ryzen 2000 series or newer)
  • SSE 4.2 instruction set support (required for 24H2)hp

You can verify compatibility using the PC Health Check tool from Microsoft: How to use the PC Health Check app - Microsoft Support

HP Driver and Firmware Support for 24H2

Currently, the HP support page for the HP 17-cp1000 lists drivers for Windows 11 21H2 and 22H2, but not yet for 24H2. This is normal during early rollout phases. HP typically updates driver listings gradually after validating compatibility.

You can check the official driver page here: HP 17 Laptop PC 17-cp1000 Software and Driver Downloads | HP® Support

If your laptop is working fine after the upgrade, you can continue using the existing drivers. Most drivers from 22H2 are compatible with 24H2 due to minimal architectural changes.

Recommended Steps Before Upgrading

  1. Backup your data using File History or a third-party tool.
  2. Update BIOS and drivers from HP’s support page before upgrading.
  3. Create a system restore point.
  4. Use Windows Update or the Installation Assistant to upgrade.

🧠 Additional Tips

If you face issues post-upgrade (e.g., audio, touchpad, or Wi-Fi), reinstall drivers using HP Support Assistant: HP Support Assistant | HP® Support

HP may release 24H2-specific drivers soon. Keep checking the support page or enable auto-updates via HP Support Assistant.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
