Welcome to the HP Community.

If you deleted all the software / applications for any icon / shortcut, then the shortcut is not pointing to anything that will provide an action.  In other words, clicking on the empty shortcut does not work.  It makes sense.

That said, if you click on an empty shortcut / item in the Task Bar, you would normally receive an error of some kind to help you understand what has happened.  No error?

General Answer - A place to start looking for odd bits...

Check Windows Start > All Apps to find applications that are pinned to Start and possibly the Task Bar.

Scroll down in this message to find out how to uninstall software / applications from Settings > Apps > Apps and Features.

Some apps can also be uninstalled from within Windows Start > All Apps

FYI for those reading:

Settings > Personalization > Taskbar

Check the settings / setup

The left over bits might be found in your Startup menu

Right-Click on the Task Bar > Task Manager > Startup

Right-Click on the offending item,

Disable

or

Open file location

If, for example, you choose to Open file location,

Judging by the name of the folder in which the file is found,

Decide whether the action / software / program is something that (still) needs to be uninstalled.

What else?

"Dead" icon on the Desktop?

If you have a left over icon on the Desktop folder that does not actually connect to a software / program,

Right-Click on the empty shortcut and toss it into the Recycle Bin.

What else?

If the item you are trying to remove is actually an  image file with filetype .png ,

If the image file was part of the HP Support Assistant hierarchy,

then

Normally that image file is removed when you uninstall the HP Support Assistant software / application.

Assuming for the moment that you did try to fully and correctly uninstall the HP Support Assistant,

Double-check the locations of the HP Support Assistant to be sure the software / application is removed.

Preparation

Optional / Recommended > Before you make changes to your computer:  Create a Restore Point

Stop / Exit all programs:  Browsers, games, Applications, etc.

Control Panel > icon view > System > System Protection

Click (Highlight) your main disk (C) > Select Create a Restore Point

Next,

Uninstall the HPSA

Select and uninstall the HPSA type(s) you have installed on your computer...

Uninstall HP Support Assistant Software

FIRST > Uninstall the HP Support Assistant

Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features

Scroll down, find, Uninstall the HP Support Assistant

Important:  When / If asked whether you want to save any presets / personal HPSA information, respond to have your personal data associated with the program removed along with the HPSA software.

NOTE:  If software will not uninstall, appears to be removed and then shows up again, or is otherwise not “going away” when you tell it to do so, try an Uninstaller program.

Microsoft:  Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed

Next,

Uninstall HP Support Solutions Framework software from Programs and Features

Search or scroll down and find HP Support Solutions / Framework

Select (Click) and Uninstall the software

NOTE:

When installed as part of HP Support Assistant software, HP Support Solutions Framework is a subset of HPSA.   For this reason, HPSA must be uninstalled before the Solutions Framework can be removed.

Restart the computer and log in.

================================================================================

Uninstall HPSA Application >> Apps

FIRST > Uninstall the HP Support Assistant Application

Settings > Apps > Apps and Features

Search or scroll down and find HP Support Assistant

Left-Click on the item (HP Support Assistant) > Uninstall

NEXT > OPTIONAL >> Uninstall HP Support Solutions Framework software from Programs and Features

     NOTE:

Search or scroll down and find HP Support Solutions / Framework

If you find a listing for the Solutions software, then

If you wish to do so, HP Support Solutions can be uninstalled, too.

If removed, and wanted again later, HP Support Solutions can be reinstalled at Product Home

Select to use “Auto-Detect” to install HP Support Solutions

Left-Click on the application (HP Support Assistant) > Uninstall

Restart the computer and log in.

================================================================================

Final Check – Software / Application is Removed

After the software is uninstalled (and the computer is Restarted), check to ensure the software is actually “gone”.

Settings > Apps > Apps & features

OR

Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features

If the software / application is found > Click to Uninstall

Restart the computer and log in.
