HP touchpad

HP laptop 15-da
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I want to disable the touchpad on the hp 15-da0053wm. I have only found one place where there is a button to disable it but it is grayed out. I want to use my Logitech wireless mouse instead.  The laptop is only one week old and HP Support wanted to charge me $15 for the answer.  I won't pay it.  Any help will be greatly appreciated.

HP touchpad

Hey there! @sunman1,

Please share the product number of the PC to assist you better.

Try double tapping on the top left of the trackpad this should disable the touchpad. Just double tap at the same place to enable the touchpad.

Also, you can try the steps recommended below to disable the touchpad.

1.In the search box type mouse in the search field.

2.Select Mouse from the list of options.

3. Click the Device Settings tab.

4. From the Devices list, select Synaptics LuxPad V7.5, and then click Settings.

5.Double-click Tapping. The Tapping window displays.

6. Uncheck Double Tap to Enable or Disable TouchPad.

7. Click Close, and then click OK.

8. In the Mouse Properties window, click Apply.

If the issue persists uninstall the touchpad drivers from the device manager to disable the touchpad.

Note: Restarting the PC would install the touchpad drivers and the touchpad starts functioning again.

Hope this answers your query!

Have a great day ahead! 🙂

HP touchpad

Sorry I did not read this post before I replied to the second email I received from you.  None the less, here is my response to your suggestions on how to turn the touchpad off, or disable it.

My laptop is 2 weeks old.  HP laptop 15-da0053wm, windows 10 home, serial # CND9162BXG, product #4AL72UA#ABA.

None of the 3 solutions you suggested work.  I get different menus than what you say I should see after executing the commands you suggest. The touchpad is a Synaptics SMBus touchpad plugged into PS2 mouse port.  Even after I uninstalled the device, at the end it tells me that I must reboot the computer to finish the uninstall  and the touchpad still works, although, not perfectly.  And we know what happens when I reboot.  It reinstalls the touchpad, driver and all.

No Joy.
