IMG_20250911_200134.jpgIMG_20250911_200116.jpgHello HP Community,

I'm facing a persistent issue with my HP Pavilion x360 14-dy1048TU. After using the laptop for a few minutes, it begins to misbehave with the following symptoms:

Apps open or close on their own, without any input

Some apps open multiple times even when clicked just once

Screen flickers — even in BIOS and Safe Mode

Frequent ghost touches on the touchscreen

Win + R auto-executes saved commands without pressing Enter

Programs like mrt launch and then cancel by themselves

Internal trackpad becomes laggy and hard to control, but external mouse works fine

HDMI-connected external display also shows occasional flickers

These issues only start after a few minutes of usage — initially, everything works fine. All drivers, BIOS, and firmware are updated, and HP hardware diagnostics show no issues. I’ve attached videos to demonstrate the behavior.

Note:

Some internal keyboard keys (like F4, G, H, Ctrl, Win, etc.) stopped working months ago and are likely unrelated, but may be contributing to the overall input problems.

Any help or insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi @SaideepV

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for sharing the details—what you're experiencing on the HP Pavilion x360 14-dy1085TU is genuinely disruptive. Ghost touches, screen flickering, and erratic keyboard behavior across both Windows and BIOS environments suggest a hardware-level fault, likely involving the touchscreen digitizer, display cable, or embedded controller.

Let’s walk through a structured recovery and escalation path to help stabilize your system:

Step-by-Step Troubleshooting

1. Disable Touchscreen Temporarily

This helps confirm whether ghost touches are triggering the flicker and UI anomalies.

  • Open Device Manager
  • Expand Human Interface Devices
  • Right-click HID-compliant touch screen > Disable device
  • Restart and observe if flickering or erratic input stops

If disabling the touchscreen resolves the issue, the digitizer may be sending false signals due to grounding or cable interference.

2. Run HP UEFI Hardware Diagnostics

Even if previous tests passed, re-running the full suite can help detect intermittent faults.

  • Power off the laptop
  • Press Esc repeatedly during startup, then select F2
  • Run Extensive Test on:
    • Display panel
    • System board
    • Keyboard
    • Touchscreen (if listed)

Reference: HP UEFI Diagnostics Guide

3. Update BIOS and Embedded Controller Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause input conflicts and display instability.

Restart after each update and test behavior.

4. Inspect Physical Display Assembly

If the screen opens or flickers when closed, the issue may involve:

  • Loose or pinched display cable
  • Digitizer grounding fault
  • Pressure sensitivity anomalies near the hinge

These require physical inspection by a technician. If you're comfortable, you can gently press around the bezel and hinge area to check for pressure-induced flicker or ghost input.

I truly understand how disruptive this has been—especially when basic input and display functions become unreliable. I’m here to support you every step of the way.

Let’s work toward restoring full control and stability.
